Saw those last week and ordered one for a display, received it today and looks pretty decent!

They come in different sizes, with / out hangers, based on the 100-xx series (I got the 100-21 in 32x40 for my window display). Also, they are fitted with a sliding plexi for glazing and black FC for backing. I like the sliding plexi idea.

It also has enough space to add another mat if the black background is not suitable.

Sizes are 16x20, 22x28 and 32x40; colors are black or silver.

So tell us about the sliding plexi - how does that work? Slides in and out of a slot, like in the top of the frame??? Wouldn't that be an invitation for wicked scratches???

Are these supposed to be aimed at framers or DIYers???

Course, dunno why I am asking - I haven't seen a Nurre rep for over 5 years.....got rid of my samples about a year after her last visit. They did send me a nice letter "introducing" me to my new rep - last I ever heard from them. Idjits.

We talked about these in a thread not too long ago.

They just had the 32 x 40 when I ordered mine.

Be careful pulling the plexi out. If you lay the box on it's back and pull the plexi out, it bows in. Then, the rubber edging on the "pull side" gets rubbed loose and you get adhesive smeared across the plexi. Also, some scratches. Takes awhile to get it cleaned and ok again.

Stand it on it's bottom and slide the plexi out. Also easier to get it back in that way.

Given the price points and the "non-archival" hanging mechanism, I think it is ONLY useful if a) the jersey or whatever will be changed periodically, or b) you don't know how to properly frame a jersey or whatever.

Mar & Cliff:

Those are really aimed (at least in my case) at those who want a cheap SB or don't want to pay over $500 for a shadowbox.

DYers might also be included; somebody very recently asked about something just like that.

Also, the sample in the window might get people thinking about getting something shadowboxed.

Rats, I wish they'd had the smaller sizes when I ordered mine, the 32x40 is big!! Haven't had a chance to use it yet, and don't have room for a display sample.

Anyone have a picture of one they've completed that I might print and put in my portfolio binder until I can get one finished? Even a photo is a better selling tool than just that blank, empty box.

Don't see these on thier site. My rep quit and no replacement ever appeared.
We order NC every week, go figure.

Photo?

I'm really careful about what I buy in ready made frames, expecially shadow box type stuff because unlike a take-out shop, I end up with the problems right on my DIY tables with the customer right there. Thus, we shy away from anything that looks remotely shoddy or hard to work with. Thus, no Swiss clips, thin line frames, shadow boxes, etc. Still lcurious though.

Tracy (TCS) is so good to work with and thier ready mades are sturdy and well made, out of thier own moulding. The company is run by two ex-Victor Mdlg managers. West Coast folks--they now stock most of the Fotiou line. Tell Jack I sent you. He took me out to lunch last month :-)

Jack's great!! He was my Victor rep that I bought all my equipment from and most of my inventory, to set up my first shop in 1980-something. It was so weird to see him walk through the door a couple years ago. "Jack? Is that you?"..." Val? Is that you?" Hasn't changed much, has he? Tell him Val in Carson City says hi too

Yes, Jack Phillips looks great. He is on a strict diet and exercises and it all is paying off. I forgot to mention Larry--do you remember him from Victor? He manages the office while Jack is on the road. Jack rarely comes by, but when I see him next I'll say Hi. They have a great business in Tracy and I hope they continue to do well. It is uphill in the small company distribution moulding business. Thier ready mades are selling like hotcakes --3 week delivery right now.

I need to talk with Jack about the readymades. He's due to be around soon...couple times a year. Another survivor in many ways. He really helped me get started....although I could strangle him for talking me into the cold/vaccum mount table......all that spray adhesive. Kidding...how would any of us know, back then?

Maybe I'll just call him instead and ask...save him a trip. I don't remember Larry.....Jack was pretty much The One. And the other one in my area that was such a jerk...Don? I'm sure you'd remember him...I understand he's selling fireplaces now... or burgers, or something. No matter, it's comforting to see Jack walk in the door. Old times prevail!

Having never seen one, how would these compare to the LJ "Jersey Pro" shadow boxes, for look and for price.

The Nurre boxes are made from the 100 profile with a special side panel that enables the acrylic to slide out and be held in with magnets. The LJ boxes have PERMANENT glazing and no way to replace it if it gets broken. You take the bottom leg off the Nurre and slide a full 32 x 40 sheet in the back in front of the black foam they ship with it. The Acrylic is UV acrylic. The Nurre has a built in hanger at the top that turns, to enable easy hanging of any jersey.

As I recall, the wholesale price on the 32 x 40 Nurre is $129.95, I don't remember the LJ price.

I'm not sure why you'd ever sell the LJ box instead of a regular shadowbox moulding. The Nurre I think has it's place if the item will be changed regularly.

I think you can do a proper frame and mount for about the same price if you're judicious in your mat and frame selection, with a better margin. So, I wouldn't expect anyone to use either of the "pre-mades" very often if they know what their doing.

Cliff,

I ordered two of the LJ boxes a year ago just to have on hand for those who did not want to spend 350 + for a proper jersey mount. Cost 160 per. To date I have only sold one: That went to a customer who came in at 5:30 on a friday night and needed a jersey mounted and delivered by 8:00 AM saturday morning. Since I did not have enough shadowbox mounlding on hand to build a large enough box, I offerd them the LJ box. They agreed, selected the mats and I worked till late to get it mounted and done. And I charged them more than I would have to "build" a box. But they wanted it fast, and knew the price going in. Gotta love last-minute customers....

Otherwise, I have no plans to order any more of the LJ boxes. I was just currious how they would compare.

After less than 24 hours in the window, one lady asked about them and she wants one as a Xmas present for her son.

She liked the idea that one is able to open them and hang / change whatever goes in them.
