Hello,

While in Vegas, I saw some really nice new Nielsen metal moulding that almost looked like wood. It was traditional looking. Does anyone know if it is available yet? I would love to use it for an upcoming project as a gift, but would need to order this week. Thanks!

Susan

PS: It looks like it is called the "Gilded Collection."

They told me at the WCAF booth that they would probably be available in April. Nice looking stuff, I'm looking forward to it, as well as the new Bainbridge Vivids Suedes, that match the Nielsen Vivids.

I have what is probably a stupid question, I am wondering why not just use a real wood frame rather than an aluminum made to look like wood? I didn't go to the show, so I have no clue what these look like, I'm just having trouble with the point of it all.

1. GREEN - one could make an argument that aluminum mouldings are recyclable and fit a greener profile.

2. The framed models I saw were fantastic and the designs using very thin beaded mouldings could not be accomplished with wood mouldings as they would be way too thin to structurally support the size made.

3. Archival - no lignin or other nasties to worry about. Art can come within 1" of moulding and not worry about lining the rabbet with metal tape.

4. Designs. I don't think you can do the detail and depth of finish I saw on wood for the price.

Anyone else?

other than sealing the frame, I think you covered it Rob. I just haven't seen a metal frame yet, YET.. in the PRINT competition. :D...... I said YET.

John. these new metal are only 3/8" wide. They are designed for the customer that insists on the way to thin frame on the way to big job. I am very excited about them and will keep them on my wood sample wall and not with the metals.

Thanks guys for clarifying this for me, now it makes sense. I'll definitely be interested in seeing these when they become available. That 3/8" profile that looks like wood sounds like a winner.

John

nice!

Rob pretty much said it...These mouldings have just the right depth to do some fun stuff, but not too deep that it's a shadowbox. The design is terrific-so many possibilities and quite classic and handsome. The samples that they showed were quite large pieces for such a skinny moulding, but that shows the range that these new ones can cover. Being in this industry for quite a while, it's rare to see something that wows me. I don't even have the samples and I have some projects lined up for them. These will deserve a space on your wall, and will give you broad design possibilities.

I just need to know if any of the major suppliers have them in stock. The numbers did come up in my SS Software.

Susan

Baer, thanks for reminding me-

These new metal profiles are also the first to be designed with a new flange on the extrusion to allow for dust covers to be added to a metal moulding by using 1/4" ATG and a new special hanger that allows the wire to come through a slit in the dust cover.
