so I'm working on my advertising this month and one of my best methods is my shop windows/outside signage. I'm located at a very busy 4-way intersection in town that is known to have people sitting in traffic having nothing to stare at but my storefront.

So I've decided I should give the windows a little revamp. My windows are very large and we get so much sun that I literally NEVER use heat in the winter. Sometimes I actually have to turn on the AC in the winter - despite having blinds. So needless to say for years the displays have been paintings/cutouts on the windows(because any framing would fade in a matter of days). They've become a famous staple of the town and each month everyone looks forward to what will be painted in the windows next.

I've definitely decided that instead of my painted on lettering at the bottom of my windows (that say custom framing/etc) I'm going to get new vinyl lettering to match the color of my awnings. But I had another idea that I wasn't sure about. I thought about putting a "graphic" frame decal in the window and putting my "paintings" inside each of these frames. Each window would have a different style frame and color (like the example attached). My graphic designer husband doesn't think people in their cars will get the idea that its supposed to be a frame.

Anyway just wanted my fellow framer's opinions.

I have to say, you make me feel really lazy.

What efforts!

I think first of all, vinyl will give you a much better look. Better fonts will help your windows look more professional.

Although I believe you've been as create as you can be, you're wearing yourself out doing the windows. And if you completely stop what you've started, you're going to be missed a little bit since everyone's used to it.

Those awnings were a nice touch.

I'd say... put something permanent in most of the windows....and something you can swap out monthly in one. I think if you go totally permanent you're going to hate it FAST because its too different.

I know...I know...permanent window displays can be boring... but they don't have to be. I have a similar problem...my windows get so much direct sunlight that sometimes I'm tempted to only put things I know will never sell in them. Who wants to put up examples of things that will never sell???? What good is that? But ruining everything you put up (even if rotated) can be really disheartening...and expensive.

I've thought about getting a large permanent vinyl graphic that depicts a 'peel away' view of the inside of the shop.

I wasn't going to give up the painted windows. I was actually going to paint them "inside" the vinyl frame. And actually I don't have to wear myself out doing them at all. The local schools have their art students come to paint them for their monthly service projects - plus I enlist my younger sister who actually just likes to do them for fun. which I don't mind one bit!

I couldn't stop doing the windows though. when i bought my shop I had so many people asking me to continue with the windows that the previous owner had begun 30 some years before.

:) I'd try it on one window first and see how you like it before you do it on them all. I think its great that you have so much help!
