Hello :)
Moving literallty out of the basement into a nice little worshop behind my parents' property.
I'll post pictures of my new diggs when I get it finally built. My dad is having minor surgery and a death in the family has seriously delayed construction....my dad and I are the only workers.

Anyway - thought I would post my new logo and sticker for the back of the frame packages. May look odd a bit, but the logo could easily been taken from a picture of the area around my place.

Thoughts? Comments? Note: this is a lower res image right before the final revision. I have better ones, but this one is 99.99% perfect and it is small enough to post.

I like it. I like the colors. Is the sticker going to be oval? square?

Good luck with your new building.... I know how things happen that can slow things down to a crawl... take your time, take care of your family first, and you'll get there eventually.

Here is the sticker. Sorry for the poor scan. Just did it quickly.
I will add another sticker as situations arrise for mounting methods, etc, but this is the one that has been going on almost everything.

Primarily with my low volume the stickers are more for "looking proffesional" and being able to match mats and frames on previously done work as needed.

Rather than stipulate components on the sticker, why not just reference your order number? Assuming you have a POS it's a quick lookup anytime you need this info, and less limiting. e.g. how would you record a stacked frame with a liner on your sticker? Much easier just to record order#

Also why not show your URL rather than your email address.

I have an HP Officejet Pro and I just run the labels as needed so I can change them at anytime. As for keeping the info on the invoices / orders, etc -- I keep most on my computer, but the key word is most and I am not the best record keeper in the world.
It works for me. I can also print anything at all on that sticker as needed. This is just my "basic" one.
I have POS software, just not configured yet. Waiting on that until I get to move into my new place and basically have the chance to "start over' with the record keeping and do better with the business aspect of framing.

.....Why email and not URL.....Website is not working yet ;) Blank page.
Email is working : ) Again, that will change shortly too.

Steven, don't you think people would be more likely to come back to you to match that mat and frame if they didn't have that information on the back that they could easily take to someone else. If its in your records...they call you...you get the next one too. :D Just a thought.

Small and devoted customer base ; ) LOL
Seriously, thanks for the comments. You all have a point.

But it's a start ...........

Steven,

Smile, you're doing a good job getting your business up and running!! We all had to start someplace and we all made the mistakes you are making and will correct. Just keep your eyes open for better methods of doing things and change what you see isn't working well for you.

Your logo is great!! Rolling fence lined pastures, ....................... kinda reminds me of Kentucky!!;)

Hang in there and good luck with your new business.

No offense to horse people, but I wanted anything but a horse in the logo : )

Nicholasville has a lot of rural rolling hill areas leading down to the Kentucky River. Not what people imagine when they think of the Bluegrass area. I wanted the logo to show the Nicholasville / Kentucky that locals know well, but visitors often never see - aka something different from barns and horses.

By the way for what its worth - I have been framing a long time. It has always been a third job good for a little money here and there. Enjoyable hobby that made money - then it became more than a hobby and I completely outgrew the basement. Not to mention the negative image of literally framing in a basement.
Looking very forward to getting into my little workshop.

Hey I am used to a basement! This shop looks huge to me.
I am an appointment only framer, but I work for the second largest school system in the state so I get most of my business from co-workers and friends of co-workers. Good supplier about 5 miles from where I work also helps. Always have 2-3 projects working on them and that is enough for me :)

I hear ya on the horses man! Ya know though in KY that just such an easy sell.

I do like your logo. I figured being around Lexington you might choose a cobblestone fence instead of picket. Lexington is the only area of the entire World I have ever been where I would look around and think, "I could live here". When I get my new camera I will make it up that way to do some shooting of those farms. They are quite inspirational.

Ohh the logo. When I look at a logo I ask: How does it look really big like 12' x 8'? How does it look really small on say a business card? Is it easy to recognize or do you need to concentrate on it to make the connection? Can it be embroidered onto a shirt? Does is say something about the company?

When I look at yours I would answer great, good, easy, I think so, sure! All positives to me!

I love your colors and the design of your logo. The one thing I would work on is your font usage. I don't like the letterspacing and the serif font you chose will be difficult at small sizes, in my opinion. Notice how the ### is spaced over to the right away from the GR. That's one of the letterspacing issues that bothers me.

I quickly made an example (see examples on web page) of a different font usage and you can see how the letterspacing is improved, too. Also sometimes it's better to make the wording smaller to be more legible with more white space around it. This isn't necessarily the font I would choose, but I wanted to give you a quick example.

Your originals are on the left and the revisions on the right side of the page.
