I have never in my life received a voice mail in my email. Today I received one, in a zipped file - and when I checked the properties and such, pages of gobbledygook came up.

From what I can gather my AV did not think it was spam but they did not check it for viruses.

I marked it as junk and deleted it without further ado.

So what the heck was it, anyway?

Mar if it is a zip file do not open it... Comcast sends me emails of my home phone messages. It is a "service" they provide for free since I pay them a boatload a month for the privilege of having them bring cable internet and phone to my house....

It is nice to be able to check my home answering machine from anywhere over the internet, but Comcast has never sent the voicemail in a zip file....

Scam virus or trojan horse yes but voice mail? Never :)

Oh, I know enough not to open a zip file.

I am just warning any of all y'all who may not have encountered such a thing.

And like I said, it was my first one ever.....

I’ve gotten a few of these .zip attachments recently.

A few from “Amazon” claiming that my PayPal account has been charged > $1,000, and two very interesting ones from New York State and California claiming that I have a court appearance due during January sometime. I have to open the .zip file to read the summons from the court clerk.

Uh, huh! Right! I’ll get to it as soon as I reply to my uncle’s solicitor in Nigeria.

I still have a parcel in a depot in Arizona. :icon11:

I did the yearly clearout of my email inbox yesterday. Found a mail from my bank wanting to confirm details blahdyblahetc. It looked very convincing apart from a little copyright notice at the end which was in some strange alphabet.

It was a virus, almost certainly. Never click something like that to open the payload.

Many of the free av programs dont even scan emails, and some others wont detect something within a ZIP archive.

I received one of those yesterday, too. I DO get my voicemails by email, but not as a ZIP.
