This is finally out of BETA, and available for free download. It has tabbed browsing, clearer fonts, phishing protection, and many other new features. This is the next generation of Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser, as will be released with Windows XP's replacement (VISTA) in a couple weeks. It was designed to improve security and safety while on the web.

I think this will soon be coming through the automatic updates center. If you would like to upgrade now, it's a quick download. If so, visit http://www.microsoft.com/ie

Do not download unless you are using one of the recomended operating systems.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

I'm still on win2kpro for all but one system so I need to pass at this time.

Support/updates for MS-DOS 6.xx, Windows 3.1, and Windows 95 ended 11/30/2001
Support/updates for Windows NT ended 12/31/2004
Support/updates for Windows 98, 98SE, and ME ended 7/11/2006
Support/updates for Windows 2000 is expected to end 7/13/2010
XP will be supported for quite a while longer, although it will soon be obsolete
2003 will be supported for quite a while longer, as well.
Vista comes out soon for corporate customers, and for the public in early 2007.

If you have an operating system above that is in RED, and use it on the internet, an upgrade should be seriously considered. They are no longer releasing patches to fix exploits and problems found in those versions.

XP or newer (2003, Vista Beta) is required for IE 7

FireFox will also be coming out with a new web browser soon (2.0), to improve some current features and add a couple more.

I downloaded it, and after a few days have begun to see these add-on tabs on the meun bar. also, my old friend zango appeared on this bar. can these be filtered out?

I did do the delete add-on's procedure, but ended up having to re-download the IE.

HMMMM...what else do I need to know...always feeling like I'm in a black hole with todays technology....

IE7 is a tabbed system, so that is expected. However, That other program (Zango/180/HotBar) is a nasty spyware and adware program. Part of it was probably left over from the past, with some registry entries left behind so it could re-infect your PC.

Most spyware scanners will remove it. (Spybot, Microsoft Windows Defender, Ad-Aware, etc.)

Zango can Tango away....

Zango just pop-'d up when I opened my IE7 "introducing itself" to me, saying how wonderful and helpful it will be helping me find more quickly the type of sites I seam to search! Wasn't that nice of "it?" I checked my manage pop up's and "it" was disabled.....

???now another change has taken place, my hotmail account is being sent out as html text!??? I don't know if something I did changed that too?

Calgon- take me away......

(thanks Mike!)

I had to remove IE7 beta from the computer we use to run Stamps.com. For some reason, we could not log onto the Stamps.com site -- which means we could not print postage... not acceptable.

The Stamps.com support tech said it was a known issue with IE7, but that we would have to contact Microsoft to have it fixed. That was a 30 minute call, but it worked. So, after half a day of messing around with that issue, we're back to IE6 on that computer.

I guess Stamps.com will fix the compatibility issue in an update soon, if they haven't already. If not, they will surely lose customers.

If IE7 automatically switches outgoing emails to HTML, that could explain why so many HitchHikers have had trouble sending emails to PPFA's Online Exchange lately. Come to think of it, I had to change it back to Plain Text on one computer myself. Hmmmm...

I was having trouble with the Norton updates so I went to Microsoft for new updates and it recommended the IE7 for my computer. I did it and it solved the problem with Norton. I'm not sure it has stopped the phishing (sp) but so far it is fine. It makes me nervous when I realize my computer is becoming obsolete faster than I am. I do not get pop ups, I use the XP for a blocker.

Not bad.

Looks like they're trying to catch up to Firefox.
