With the near demise of my old computer, I ordered this spiffy new one--24" iMac, 500gig, 2 gig ram. Life in the FAST lane. Totally cool. I'll be installing Windows on Parallels next week so that I can tinker with POS demos and the Wizard and IF software at home--finally. I'll need an extra software license or something, but I'm OK with that. I'm so excited!! Yipee!

Nothing I like better than a new Techno Toy! Every time I get one, they have added sooo many cool new features. I love figuring out the new workings and they are almost always a big improvement over the the old way.

Enjoy!

Kirstie,
I'm so jealous! I'm slowly evolving from a windows man, to an iMac man. My iMac 20 that we use to run our Epson printers is a joy to use. My next computer will be an Imac 24 or bigger.
My only regret is I sold my Apple stock when it was about $28.00 dollars a share. Now it's in the hundred's. Oh well, it's still a great computer.

Congratulations, Kristie!

I’ve always believed that Mac uses were smarter and better looking that P.C. users.

David, you're brave to ask. Actually, in terms of functionality, the only limitation that I'm aware of is that many software developers do not make Mac versions of their software because the market share is so much less. We're thankful for those who recognize the importance of the mac users out here. We're an awesome bunch of renegades.

As for benefits over and above the Windows world, well I just don't have time to go into that now. And you're right, I don't think you want to start this. . . again.

Congrats on the new machine!

I was talking about the amount of memory that was supported. I suppose it's possible the OS doesn't place any limitations on it, but at least the current hardware must?

In other words, if I wanted to put 64GB of memory in, could I? 128GB, 256GB, 10TB, etc.

I think Mike is right about 4 Gb for a desktop Macintosh.

The most I’ve seen for a Mac Laptop is 2 GB.

I could only dream about Terabytes (as he stares longingly off into the distance).

Memory value depends on program needs - the numbers are meaningless. I used to have a Compaq 286 "lunchbox" with a whopping 6megs of memory and a graphical interface OS2 version. Excel for OS2 was a 1meg executable - running entirely in memory, it would put the speed of current versions to shame. With WordPerfect for OS2 I was able to edit 1000 page documents entirely in memory - you could jump from page 1 to page 900 in an instant - no disk overlays. The old 640k DOS limits bred a generation of very efficient coders. It's too bad that Bill Gates, for marketing reasons, divorced himself from IBM and went on to promote Windows instead.

Kirstie-

DO NOT download the 1.1 software update. There is a problem with it that causes the screen to freeze, though the mouse still works. It is a pain and the only way to fix it is to restore the hardware. I'm still working on the problem, but it is better than before. I've been on discussions and apple hasn't fixed the problem yet.
