Just wondering.....is this print liscensed by HD to be sold in the USA?

Same thought crossed my mind Tim. Here in Myrtle Beach the bunko squad actively seizes unlicensed merchandise of all brands and hands out very hefty fines. Many businesses have been lost to this type of merchandise because the fines can be huge.

I am an artist in the UK and Harley UK staff have seen the picture and never mentioned about a license. They just liked the work. I have also emailed Hog Chapters attached to dealers in the USA and no one has raised the 'license' issue. There are loads of Harley posters and art out there online to purchase that are not licensed too.
If it is that you can not have my art then thank you for letting me know about this issue and I will have to look into it.
Regards
Billy

You might want to look into that. We have a screenprinting business and do some work for HD indirectly (through an approved distributor). They are very picky about what gets on their shirts etc. and has to go through a long approval process.
Not sure if that would apply in this case.

Yes it is the same with artwork. Their name and emblem are trademarked items and need written approval for reproduction. Myrtle Beach has 2 Harley rally weeks each year and they are on the lookout for any unlicensed item. The local artists will not paint or draw Harley items for sale because of it.

Thanks for that. I have spoken to Harley today and it is a bit of a mystery! I am not doing Tshirts and on the art.com site there are 130+ Harley prints (art and photographic) and they are not licensed.

I pointed this out to them and they ended up passing me through to the Trade Mark dept which was on coffee break as I got a voicemail and I am awaiting a response.
The Licensing dept has a great voicemail 'Press 1 if you want to use a Harley in a Movie, 2 in a book, 3 in a documentary.....' But not '7 if you are an artist' unfortunately. I am just a little Brit who wields a pencil and paintbrush.
The Myrtle Beach thing is a mystery too as there are thousands of artists doing this work globally.
Still just have to wait and see. Thanks for all the help and pointers. We will see what Harley say.

The thing with Myrtle Beach is that before the recession there were nearly 200,000 people in town for the spring Harley week. Hundreds of vendors payed for permits to sell merchandise and while most of them had licensed items there were always unlicensed items being sold. This was not just Harley items but counterfeit goods of every brand.

Myrtle Beach has 1 Million visitors EACH WEEK during the peak of the season. Counterfeit items are siezed all year long.

That is just like our trading standards officers in the Uk at our 'Car Boot (Trunk) Sales' seizing pirate dvds, fake clothes etc. We have lots of that going on. I did a talk on piracy a few years ago and every year in the UK about £60 million ($100million) is pirated on brand new film dvd releases. Not taking into account music, computer games, TV series dvds. Staggering really.
We had one guy caught recently loading a van, in his closed garage, with thousands of copied dvds (hard core porn too) and said at his arrest 'I have no idea what is in those boxes in my house or van'!!!!

Just have to wait to hear from Harley.

I'd be interested in Harley's response and possibly your prints too.

We've been toying with the idea of framing up a Harley themed print in Dennis Mathewson moulding and taking it around to various businesses to see if it drums up any biz.

Maybe they'd be interested in the print too.

My area would have a market for the prints as well once licensed. There are thousands of Harley owners that live here as a result of the rallies. The spring rally will bring at least 25,000 but as I said there were 200,000 at the peak of the rallies.
