Hey Everyone, just wanted to introduce myself... I am Bill from St. Charles, IL I have a small sports collectables / memorabilia shop. I do mostly sports related framing I am self-taught, but this board looks like a place to learn a few things.

Welcome Bill! This is a great place to learn that what we've taught ourselves, might be better-learned about here.

Welcome!

Ditto!
Welcome ~ this is a great group with a wealth of great ideas and a plethora (I love that word!):D of framing wisdom. They've already helped me tons.
Frame on!
Laurie

We are glad that you are here, feel free to chime in any time....

.....so much to learn, so little time....

"I am self-taught"

welcome aboard!
start reading all those books on the subject.
go back in time and read ALL the articles in all the sections, here .
get to be a HitchHiker member, & read all their archives(I guess they have them?-I'm not a HH'er)
read thru artaffairs.com forum history(is this the HH site also?)
read thru the Brit's grumble--theframersforum.com

best advice at this point in time??----get thee to a framing school and learn what you'll either miss or never think of(any suggestions from our group as to which one would be the most helpful here?)! maybe better yet---talk a local framer into a 'teach me something/everything'! THAT'S the best way to learn anything--under the gun conditions.(I'm a touchy/feeley guy not a read it/apply it guy)

Thanks for the warm welcome. As for how I’ve learned the little bit I know it’s all from books and the distributor I get my supplies from. I use a company called Gemini Moulding for a lot of my supplies they give me completive pricing and the woman that is in charge of there frame room is pretty knowledgeable and always willing to answer my endless questions. If I could find the time I would like to find a good place to take some classes in framing.

Welcome! I'm not that new, but don't think I've posted yet. I'm a very part time framer. My shop is mostly a portrait studio, but we do frame about 75% of our larger prints for customers. Usually very basic stuff. But...every once in awhile a client will bring something else to be framed and I feel very stupid when I don't know how to do, say a shadowbox very well. I've been to one framing school, and read as much as I can, but can someone tell me how to acess the archives? I've wanted to post questions, but guess it's probably already been asked and don't want to waste your time.
Thanks,
Laura

jjz,

Gemini Moulding is a good company to work with. They usually have an open house once a year (Sept. I think) and it includes some great training seminars. That is one place to great some great eductation and information about framing supplies and equipment.

I have met some of the top trainers in our industry at their open houses and have some of the best classes.

Welcome all,

I've wanted to post questions, but guess it's probably already been asked and don't want to waste your time.
Thanks,
Laura

Laura,
You'll never waste anyone's time by posting a question. If the answer has been discussed before someone will probably post a link to the thread. To access the archives just use the search feature near the top of each thread.

Again Welcome....

Welcome! I'm not too terribly far from you! I use Gemini too. The Reps are great. A lot of them have a framing background too (at least mine does). They can usually help you with any questions you have.
The Grumble is awesome too-someone always has an answer!
Good luck and welcome again!:D
