I've been at my new location for awhile, but it took time to get the slowpokes (city & landlord) to get the paperwork approved for a new awning. The guys came a few minutes ago and installed it!

New signs are going to go in that black space above the window to the right of the door, facing the on coming traffic. (I may put another set above the window to the left of the door after all the construction is done and the tree that hides it is replaced with a smaller one.)

Looks nice, who would have thunk you would have to jump through all of those hoops, just to replace fabric on an awning that was already there. I could understand it, it the awning was lettered and thus a sign, but a plain awning, what a bunch of doo-fusses!

The big fuss here is that most of the little local shopping districts have rules governing the type of signage, sizes, allowable colors, allowable fonts, etc.

The issue here is, our little shopping area never had any rules, because it was put in more than more than 75 years ago. (Everything else is much, much newer.) The city doesn't have any rules to go by, so they waffle between being easy-going and erring on being conservative. (And getting a hold of my landlord to even have him sign the papers is a quest worthy of the Fantastic Four.)

I don't think the other shop owners are likely to be too thrilled with my color choice, since they all have darker, more muted awnings. But, my shop will definitely stand out now. :) Tough noogies to them!

My signage will be two signs (already approved by everyone) one for the "Fifth Avenue Galleries and Custom Framing" that will look exactly like my business card - purple with yellow(gold) lettering; and another one for "Pangaea" (the bento stuff) with it's logo - a green and blue planet on a black background with stars. Everything should stand out really well, and be throughly obnoxious to the neighbors... just perfect!

It looks great!
