Those of you who were paying attention may recall that a couple of weeks ago I was very excited about all the new Bainbridge Alpharags. I decided I didn't like white bevels any more.

I added the new samples and have been selling the **** out of 'em. I decided to stock them all.

That's when I found out the distributors don't have them. They don't expect them until late September or October.

I've had these samples, which Bainbridge was kind-enough to send me, for a couple of weeks.

When I suggested to one distributor that Baimbridge had kinda jumped the gun with the samples, she said, "They normally do."

I'm not even sure of all the numbers involved, but I know for sure that 8626, 8627, 8628, 8629 and 8630 are not yet in distributors' warehouses. There may be others.

These are beautiful boards and I don't intend to ditch the samples, but it would sure be nice if anyone from Bainbridge who's reading this could let us know on The Grumble when these boards will become available and which ones are not yet available.

Ron, I remember you mentioned these boards. I think you mentioned that there are about 70 colors available. What's the line called? They are not the Tuscan colors, are they? That set doesn't have that many colors. Thanks.

You should be in Atlanta by now Ron, just go to the Bainbridge booth, ask to talk to the mat board marketing manager, whoever you talk to will arrange for you to be in the booth at the same time and you can tell the person in charge of boards and tell them your feelings and requests. Anyone can do this and the marketing people like to hear from framers to see what needs there are and what concerns framers. Maybe framers don't realize that all the main people from all the companies go to the shows, especially Atlanta. The President, Mr. Forbes is always at the big shows and often in the booth. The head marketing people are all there. I'm not this time, but they surely are. (Wish I was there, I'll miss seeing you all!!)

By the way, be sure to wear your support FACTS sticker for the name badges and go to Jim's class on FACTS. FACTS is alive today because of framers. Pat yourselves on the back and wear your badges.

Sorry oh illustrious one.. maybe I was not paying attention.
Are you saying that Bainbridge have new boards with different coloured cores..
That was from reading your 'Not keen on white core'

Jana, these are the solid color Alpharags. There are about 65 of them, including the 8-ply. They are my very favorite matboards. Sorry, Crescent, but I think the Alpharags cut nicer than the Crescent rags.

Nona, I'm not in Atlanta. I'm sitting in Appleton, Wisconsin. It didn't work out this year.

John, the boards I'm talking about are the solid color rags. They are the same color on both sides are all the way through. They used to come in cream, white, black and ivory. Now they come in a full-spectrum of subdued tones.

I'm glad I'm not the only one not in Atlanta. If your not there, call the marketing people when they get home. Give them a day or two to unpack.

Just think, we can get some framing done. Oh joy

I was at the very first show the PPFA did in Atlanta, can't remember the year, but trust me, it was a long time ago. We had some sort of gathering at a Southern mansion and it was the first time I had ever seen fireflies. They were flitting across the huge rolling lawn. I had never seen them in idaho, where I grew up. I've not missed many shows in Atlanta since and really missed seeing everyone this time. Sounds like it was a good show.

I'll be in Texas in Oct. and sure hope I see you there. I'll be at the WCAF show in January and the PPFA show in February. Both are worth going to because they will both have great education and Vegas is so cheap to go and to stay. There is so much to do there now besides gamble. I stick my $2 worth of quarters in slots and unless I get some back, that's it for me. They have a nice art museum and some of the hotels have art shows.

I hope some people had their FACTS stickers on their name badges.

Bainbridge's ears must have been burning. I just received these corners I believe. I'm not sure if they came with my Nurre-Caxton order or with another delivery. I just found them on my work table. I got eight or nine in muted, perfect for fall, colors. I already have the ivory's, ebony's of course.

Can anyone who went to Atlanta give us the word on how they recommend cutting the new 12 ply boards?
With a brand-new .015 blade in three passes, each pass cutting through 4 plys. Right now they are available in black and white, but I believe I overheard someone mention they will be coming out with a cream soon.

I can't wait to gild their bevels.

Brother Dave:

Yeah, ypou're the **** that wants me to gold-gilt the 8-ply on my Durer, eh?

I talked at length to the folks in the Bainbridge/Nurre booth--'cause now that' s all we use==and they said they will come out with a cream soon. White an dblack were cool, but the white was way too white.

Love the new Museum grades from them and can't wait to get samples so I can order one or more for the Durer which, as I discover, really needs 2 8-ply ssince it's a bit cockled/curled/whatever and needs the depth of two 8 -plys.

I ordered the new Alpharags from a third vendor and got a message later that they were all discontinued.

Wow. A mayfly has a longer life than a new Alpharag.

I was just told the new AlphaRags would be available from Larson in Methuen, MA on October 1st. I would guess the other Larson locations have them at that time also.
