A customer is having her late husband's WWII medals framed, along with a photo of him in uniform. She wants to include a plaque that says there were many other medals, but they have been lost over the years. (She still has seven of them, including his Purple Heart.)

She doesn't know what medals were lost, or how many, so I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to come up with an unclunky way to say this. Any suggestions?

Thanks!! Kara

I would suggest contacting the military branch that he was a member of and ask them what medals he earned. It may take a period of time, but I'm sure it will be more sentimental. The local recruiting office would be able to give the address and contact information for them.

Hope this helps,

Jerry

Many decades ago, my mother, suspecting that the four medals my father had
kept, weren't everything, wrote to the Army explaining what he had, and what
she suspected.

The letter she got back a couple of months later, was a box of metals, with a
letter, thanking him for his service, and an explanation about each metal and
what he got them for (including the three purple hearts he never mentioned.

But, then again, that was for a WWII vet. All other "actions" get to suck
hind wind when it comes to the bureaucrats. But good luck.

But when all else fails, that is certainly a nice way to put the spin on things.

Just remember to type up the explanation of what IS in there, and what they
were given for. Otherwise in 20 years or less, it's just so much pot-metal.

She should be able to contact VA, fill out form here, and get a copy of his DD 214. This will list all awards and decorations he recived while serving.

They should aso include a copy of all medals recieved, engraved with his name on the back.
