I am in the Product Development stage of my new Laser venture

We had a creative brainstorming meeting the other night with our resident illegal alien (hey,we're in AZ) Jose Cuervo. Ol' Joe came up with a great idea and we all slept on it and the next morning it still made sense

so, here is my dilemna

I ordered a bunch of pre-cut blanks from a well known supplier but now need some windows cut in the 5x7 mat. The borders will be 1". Now,Wiz owners I seem to remember that if you put a 1" strip under rails and programed mat to be 6x8 it would work

Ive got about 50 or so and need a down and dirty price so i can get back to creating. Jose's influence can be fleeting

i'l bring them by and would love to wait for them. Quck turnaround can easily include a doz Krispy Kremes

anyone want to put a few bucks in pocket for a little fill in time?

Hmmmm, Krispy..........no place like that around here.

Want to do a road trip here? I have a Valiani and could do them while you wait.

May even get you in to the rodeo here if you want.

Can I have a shot of whatever it is that you are drinking Bob???

I'd help you out if I was closer..... and maybe if you had chocolate...... :icon21:

Guess I should have been more geographically specific, although it's great to hear from so many grumble buddies

I will ask a question for fun: given 50 of the same mat, what would you charge me with me bringing the precut blanks. I did get one quote that was, uh, a little extreme

The donuts are still on the table, but i'm liking Tim's creative approach

Keep this up and i just might sneak up to Vegas next Jan

Think anybody might want to hire me to teach a class or two? I must say, being out of the trade for a couple of years has added an interesting perspective on a changing industry

OK - you have 5x7 blanks, need one inch borders all around - I'll charge you 50¢ each, do 'em on my Keeton Kutter, while you wait and you can keep the donuts - bring me an ice cold Diet Coke! :)

If you are using Crescent Arctic White I have several thousand dropouts at 8"x12" and would cut what you need. You would have to wait a few days for delivery from the East Coast. Good to see your wheels turning in the industry again.

Bob, it's good to see you back and that you're OK. It's been a long time, I was worried about you.
I haven't been hanging around all that much myself lately, I just check in once n a while, so I guess everyone has done all their well wishing at you on other threads.

Anyway, I'm glad your back and I hope you are doing well.

John

Bob,

Next time you do this, just buy a few 32 x 40 sheets. Your framer should be able to "tile" them on the CMC so that you can take her out to lunch while someone minds the machine. The Wizard 8500 will cut beveled edges though. The newer ones probably cut straight outside edges.

Come to SF again and we'll do that lunch while the machine cuts :-) No charge.

I ordered a bunch of pre-cut blanks...

Next time, buy mats with windows. As you well know, labor is a major component of cost in all framing tasks, and cutting an array of mats from a full sheet allows the best economy. My CMC (and probably most other modern machines) can cut (32) 5x7 mats out of a 32x40 matboard, with beveled or straight-cut perimeters, as you wish. My price for the job would be the cost of a conservation grade (virgin alpha cellulose, buffered) matboard plus $10, so your total cost for 32 top-quality mats would be about $16. What the heck - go for broke: Buy two sheets and get 64 mats for $32. If you want to buy several sheets worth of mats (say, 200 or more) the cost would get lower.

Whatever you have to spend in fuel to drive across town and back, plus donuts, would probably pay the UPS charge to get 100 of those cut-mats across the country. That is, packing/shipping cost wouldn't be prohibitive, so you could afford to shop around.

Good luck in your search for a local mat cutter, Bob. Having to cut margins of 1" will increase the work and the cost.

Tell My friend Senor Cuervo that I said hello.:icon9:

It's so nice to hear from so many of my grumble friends. This site is a true treasure.

John-I'm doing great and having a wonderful time. Life Happens-it's up to me to make the day as great as I can. Henry Ford said something along the lines of if you expect something to have an unpleasant outcome or you expect it to have a good outcome, you will probably be right

Kirstie-I can't believe how i just didn't factor the time better. I really was looking forward to seeing you again

Jim-I did order boards with and without windows.i just needed some blanks cut with windows quickly. Your price is by far the most logical. Oh by the way, Jose said that it was good to hear from you again and thought he would see you soon

What prompted this was request was because I asked a local if they could cut te windows and recd a price of $3.50 per. just seemed high. Still hoping for a local to step up. Better hurry-that dozen is down to 9, oops, make that 8
