Hi,

Sometime last year i read on the Grumble about some guys calling framers and placing hugh orders to be delievred to some country in africa... and it all ended up being a sham, does any one remember that post, Thanks.

Thanks Dani

We are dealing with a guy who doesn't speak proper english and wants 30 boxes ! of 32 x 40 reg glass, it sounded strange and so i remembered The Grumble.

Yeah, there've been quite a string of them lately. It's a good thing we have the Grumble to keep ourselves on top of these things!

You would think Baer would already have a local glass supplier.

Thanks Ron...now could you please tell me how to clean the tea I just sprayed all over my monitor!

I had a customer from Canada last week who said that she had the same glass scam attempted with her. They wanted to order thousands of dollars of glass to be shipped to a place in the US. Not to smart. The man really wanted an e-mail address from her, but she wouldn't give him one. I'm not sure how this scam works but it looks like they really get around.

Just got a warning this afternoon from my local framing supplier in Halifax, N.S. that two of their customers had been contacted to ship a large amount of glass to Ghana. This scam has hit this part of Canada too, I guess.

I've cracked this! Tear-off cellophane sheets, like Formula one racing car drivers have! Go through about 5 a night on here!

Thanks to all you out there...

We really got saved from this scam thanks to The Grumble Gang. But the guys just would not give up and kept calling the entire day and on questioning one of them, who apparently was in Vancouver, why he couldn't just get the glass from whereever he was, all he could say was that he wants to speak to the owner. Still can't figure out what the whole deal is... I suggested that the next time the guys call we just tell them that we have stopped picture framing and now sell BANANAS which we buy from their country Ghana ( well, thats where they say they are from.

Does anyone know what this scam is all about? I haven't had time to research it, but it seems strange that...who ever is doing this...that they would ask to have glass...of all things...shipped to anywhere. The weight and problem with shipping would be one very large red flag to anyone in the framing business.

My customer from Canada said that the person who was trying to scam her really wanted an e-mail address from her and was very pushy about it. She didn't give him one. The whole thing seems very strange to me and I can't for the life of me figure out how this works. Is there some kind of computer police that these scam victims can turn this over to?

One of the ways that it works is that they send you a check for $2000 --$1000 for the glass and $1000 for the shipping and ask you to send the $1000 for shipping to Joe Smith Exporters. Joe Smith cashes your check and disappears. Meanwhile you find out that the $2000 check has bounced. It is hard to believe that they find victims. I mean - who wants to be shipping glass besides a glass manufacturer?

I notice that there is a Fraud Alert in my merchant billing statement.

"If you receive and order for a large purchase for delivery overseas or to a freight forwarder, please contact our authorization center and untilize the code 10 request. Fraudulent shipments are especially prevalent to Nigeria, Ghana, Singapore, Gambia and Indonesia."

I received a email this week that was the same scam.
If I get it again I will report them to the FTC.
