I think I will post this in two places - one for the "techies" and one for the true "art collectors":

I am looking for a source/method to recognize artist's signatures. Even after deciphering physician's writing for 30 years as a nurse, I find interpreting artist's signatures quite difficult - often because they are foreign.

Does anyone have a good source for this? I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE AN APP FOR MY DROID - you know, scan the signature and it tells you what it is!

All input would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!

Askart.com has many artist signature samples However you would have to find the artist first and use the samples to help verify the signature. You would also need a subscription. $ 24.95 a month for individuals.

I agree that an app would be an amazing asset but whoever developed it would likely charge quite a bit or have it as a subscription.

I don't think that Goggles is adequate right now, but if it continues to develop, theoretically it wouldn't the signature you'd need to decipher, but the art itself should be recognizable.

Google was the first thing I did and do. I use it to TRY to decipher a signature and have used it to try to find a "tool" to use to accomplish such. It hasn't been very successful, thus my post.

Maybe I wasn't clear. "Goggles" is an application/tool produced by Google that uses image recognition. Designed for use on a smart phone, you take a picture of the item or object and it searches its database trying to figure out what it is. Pretty cool, but still in the early stages of development.
