Helping a friend who had a fire..trying to salvage photos that have stuck to glass, probably due to extreme heat ( the frames are chared and edges of photos browned ). I have soaked them in water overnight and some were able to release from the glass, those I dry mounted and by using creative matting saved, but some refuse to release from the glass. Any tricks you can recommend to salvage them ( friend can't afford to have them scanned thru the glass and restored because of prioity expenses due to fire ).

This is a favor to a friend and photos are of sentimental value only.

I have done a lot of fire damage work over the last 25 years. Basically, if they will not come off by being soaked in water or with gentle heating with a hair dryer, there is not much that can be done to remove them from the glass.

I know I saw one time or another on here that someone FROZE it the glass and picture??

Maybe that will work!!? GOOD LUCK!!! :D :D

Scan now (anyone with a scanner can get a good image if, say you follow Digital Custom's guidelines) and save the file until the restoration work can be done at a later point in time.

If it is a glossy colored photo your chances of getting it off are practically nil.

Scan and save.

I have had luck with taking a photograph of the photo through the glass and then using photoshop to repair.
Use a tripod for steadyness...
This works well for me.
