We have a customer with a Navajo weaving about 1 x 2 feet .... about the thickness of a kitchen towel. It is bound on the edges with the yarn made to weave it ... the binding is very thin. The customer would like it floated. Any suggestions?

Stitch it to the backing with wool thread of matching colors. (the fabric, if it is Navajo, is made of wool) Mount your ragboard on fomeboard, and poke holes through both layers where you need them to do a running stitch all the way across the top, and tack the bottom two corners. If it is not quite square ( they usually aren't) You may want to stitch all the way around, pulling it square as you go. Don't be afraid to pull on it, Navajo weaving is very strong.

HOWEVER! If it isn't really Navajo wool, find out what it is, and use that kind of thread to sew it down. Can you post a picture of it?

Here's one I did like that. All Rag board and there is rag under the fillet to give the piece sufficient depth to keep the glass off the rug.

It's LJ Soho 345082 with a Soho fillet.
