Name Plate Engraving

We are having trouble with our local sources for name plate engraving. This is simple stuff, brushed silver small name plates, acid washed black text, and the same for both brass and brushed gold name plates. If we are having turnaround time problems then so is everyone else, including the local university. Sometimes we need overnight service and it is not available.

Is there a small machine I could buy to do this ourselves? Not a large expensive engraving machine, just one that could do small name plates? I know there is a demand for a reliable service in my area and I know nothing about the technology.

For one hour service, we have the mortuary a mile away do it for us. They have a flat feed ink jet that does up to 5x7. Looks better than the old scratch engraver IMHO.

But with the recent down turn.... I have gotten stuff while I wait at the trophy house. Including a 11x14 lazer cut that took about an hour to burn.

If they aren't doing "customer service as it's needed"... then they won't be around much longer.
