Hi all!

I thought I had seen a thread on this subject but didn't come up with anything using "Search"?

United offers the Dupont Mylar - D on rolls (#2834) for a very good price, I think.

The gauge is .003. Would this be the gauge to use for most incaptulations like newspapers, books, etc.?

Best Cliff

Yes. 3 mil is a handy thickness. It creases very tightly, and handles well.

You should be able to find plenty of archive info on Mylar-D. Also check under "clear film".

IMHO, United is our best source for clear film. Convenient packaging, and reasonable pricing. And don't forget to buy 3M #889 (double sided) and #888 (single sided) tapes to use with it. Both of these are polyester tapes with acrylic adhesive -- suitable for non-contact framing uses in all levels of preservation. That is, they're chemically stable and won't migrate. But of course, no pressure sensitive adhesive should be in direct contact with an item of value.

One of these days they'll run out of Mylar-D, since it is no longer made. When they do, they'll be stocking, and we'll be buying Melinex 516 or Hostaphan 43-SM.

Happy mounting.

Hi Jim,

I really enjoyed attending your Shadow Box and Preservation classes in Las Vegas and your Needle Art class in Atlanta. You're really a first class instructor!!

Yes, I looked through your hand-out but couldn't find anything on the gauge.

Ok, I'll place my order with United and also get the other items while I'm at it.

Thanks again Jim and look forward to seeing you soon. Cliff
