I'm framing a peice of art done by a grade school student. It's made up of three layers of construction paper each a different size glued on top of each other. A 12x18 centered over an 18x24 centered over a 22x28. The picture is then colored on the 12x18 and 18x24.

There is no glue at the edges of the upper sheets and they have a little curl to them. I do not feel I should do anything to the piece. My thought was to place a piece of mylar between the piece and the bottom mat to hold the top two pieces flat. My concern is the mylar will be in contact with the crayon. Is this OK? Over time will the mylar stick to the crayon?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Denny, I'm thinking that a little white glue in the appropriate spots won't diminish the collector's value of the piece.

I admire your restraint, but I'd discuss this with the customer and stand by with the glue bottle.

Your concern is valid. Wax does not harden and it
might stick to the Mylar. There should be no harm
in hinging this collage to secure it in place. Its
edges may touch the glass, but if it is kept out
of humid conditions and sunlight, condensation on
the glass is not likely. Trying to flatten the sheet with Mylar may entail pressing the Mylar onto the surface, too firmly.

Construction Paper! That stuff fades quickly. Better specify UV glazing for it.
