On Friday I finished a job encapsulating three $1 bills between 2 pieces of Mylar using the convex to convex idea. The Mylar sheets were held together with 3M's 889 tape. I was so pleased--it looked perfect.

Today I pulled the job from the bin only to find that one of the bills had slipped.

Did this happen because there were three separate items versus only one document in the package? I had spaced the 3 bills about 3/16" apart. Would I have been better off to sandwich between 2 sheets of plexi (my thinking is that it would create a static mount also)?

Thanks--as Freda finds herself in another "sticky situation"!!!!!

The bill slipped because of gravity.

In an encapsulation mount it is important to have the tape lines within 1/4" of the item. That makes the "pinching action" that holds the paper in place.

I suggest you try it again, and make a window mat with three openings at least an inch apart. The mat would cover the tape lines between the bills.
