So this customer came in wanting 2 shadow boxes made as tributes to his daughters soccer careers. The thing was that he wanted a 2lb DVD-playing photo frame inside of each frame that he could remove.

For the first one, hopefully pictured below, I joined a frame inside-out and hung it in a hole cut in the plexi. You can't really see it, but the spacers that line the exterior frame are also holding the interior frame in place. I cut a hole for the inside out frame in the mat and the backing and then stapled around the outside of the interior frame. What an odd feeling...

At the bottom of the frame there's a 1/2" thick glass plaque that I sunk through the mat and gator and held behind with a piece of dark green suede to show the white engraving. There's a small double mat in the same two greens over the top of that, held on with spacers of course and super glue.

And the second one. Because the younger daughter is still in high school, there needed to be room for her career to continue. So I mounted the TV inside of the frame with velcro and hung another frame on the front with hinges. The one thing with this frame that I found most exciting was realising (with a little aid) that I could cut a mat to cover the ugly part of the foamcore spacers that were holding the glass in and the thumbnails in the back of the front frame. I also sunk the hinges into the mat so that it acted like a refridgerator seal with the tight clasp. That mat was the same dark green as the big sisters glass plaque backing.

So whaddaya think?!? Please deflate my ego and tell me I'm not the first person to have done this inside-out window thing.

I believe you should have put this in the "Picture Frame Design" section so more of the Grumblers would know where to look and you may get more responses.

I think it really looks good and the design is ingenious. Do you think there may be a weight issue on the bottom section of the frame? Did you somehow reinforce the bottom leg? Overall, I like the design and layout - really nice job.

Very clever. Indeed impressive.

I am new to all this. Hobbiest. How did you mount the metals?

My son-in-law has run in several marathons; Chicago, Detroit, Traverse City, etc.

Those are incredible. And ingenious... not only had I never even given any thought to putting a digital frame in with static images and objects... but making it removable is pretty cool. Nice work.

Pretty fancy!

Just curious, how much did this cost the poor dad? Nice job by the way.
