We have a customer who wants us to mount a map to cork.
I have mounted the cork to some 1/4" plywood.
What would be the best method to mount the art to the cork?
Would Fusion or another mounting tissue be best, or some other method?
They are planning to put pins in the map.

Thank you,

Brian

Cork is really waxy. I think you're going to have to mount 2 Ply rag mat to the cork with some type of wet mounting adhesive and then mount the map to the rag mat with a drymounting tissue of your choice.

I was wondering if direct mounting to cork would create an unpleasing bumpy finish.
I guess it depends on if the cork has a fine and even surface, or is more coarse.
Also the thickness of the paper the map is printed on could make a difference.
I would think that "regular" poster paper would show uneven surface flaws more easily than a thicker paper.
I like Bruce's suggestion of an in-between layer.
This is certainly one of those, "do some tests first" before attempting with the customers property situations.

The good thing about using fusion or rolling on some Frank's is the the bumpy cork surface will be smoothed out.

The cork is smooth.
We wood glued it to plywood behind with no problem.
We do not regularly wet mount art.

I have a 6"x36" section of extra cork that can be used for tests.
I like the idea of using 2 ply mat.

Thanks

We have mounted directly to cork many times for clients wanting to put push pins into maps. We have always used fusion or buffer mount with success. None have come back yet... If you get your press hot enough, we have even mounted the cork to gator using the same method (let it cool while under pressure in the press).
