Customer has brought in a huge diamond artwork, around 2m wide x 1.2m long (or 78 x 47"). Usually, we mount these onto Mountcor using a heatpress, but at this size it won't fit it into the press.

I was thinking of using 2mm slimline MDF board for the backing, as it is probably too heavy for foamcore backing. Planning to use acrylic instead of glass & no spacer to hold the dots in place.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a suitable glue to attach to mdf, or other mounting ideas? The work does have a bit of excess material around it that could be wrapped around a board.

I know there are a lot of threads on here about Diamond works but I couldn't find any relating to a work of this size.

I just framed one that wasn’t anywhere near that size, but it was easy. The customer had used Modge Podge on the surface, and it looked really good. Didn’t have to worry about the dots falling off.

We used white glue to bond it to HDF, then matted and framed it.

Problem with diamond dots and acrylic right on top is possible scratching of the acrylic

Could you staple it to stretcher bars? Then inner frame, acrylic on top and gap frame to hold it in place.

Interesting about the Modge Podge. Definitely something to ask your customer is they are okay with that

There are specific glues to seal diamond paintings. Modge Podge is listed if you mix it 50/50 with water.

A very good point about the possibility of the diamonds scratching the acrylic, I think now a spacer will be a better idea! I had considered a stretcher bar, but worried it would pop the dots off. We've been given spare dots in case any do drop off but the piece is so enormous it would be easy to miss. Perhaps we will seal with Modge Podge as suggested, glue to mdf backing board and add a spacer.

Appreciate all the input!
