I mount these by laying them in position allowing most of the ribbon to hang down behind the mounting board. Then I anchor it by stitching the ribbon down the center where the ribbon forms a 'V', then a couple of stitches at the top. Then I stitch the medal to the backing board to a) keep it from swinging and b) take the weight off the ribbon. The last one I did had a huge jump ring that stuck up, so I cut a groove in the backing board to sink it in so it wouldn't stick up so much. Then I fold the excess ribbon neatly and cover it with a mylar pocket.
