Didn't think about it until the 11th hour, and it's a Christmas piece, and my brain just seized up and stopped working.
I've got a collage for a very good boy doggo who earned himself a few AKC ribbons. Of course my design has them float mounted on the top mat and I realized I really can't sew mount them because that'll put some unsightly holes in them. They already have a single pin hole on the top of each, but that's not enough to mount with. I'm thinking of a fast and dirty approach of taping them down to the matboard, or rather to individual pieces of matboard that will then get spot-glued down since the top mat is fabric and likely won't hold tape well.

But what kind of tape is going to hold well enough?!
I've got some double sided "acid free" scrapbooking tape...
I've got some super sticky fillet tape...
I've got some 3M 415 tape...

And then I've got all the typical one sides tapes I could make loops out of or wrap around the float mat scraps: P90, Linen tapes, my homemade Klucel tape...

What say ye all?
I'm leaning towards the scrapbooking tape, as it's something I've used before, albeit as a very novice framer waddling into the world of framing
Or... the Klucel tape with the wrap-around technique.
The rest I fear may be either too aggressive or not strong enough.

I probably don't have time to source anything else, but feel free to share what you have done to mount similar ribbons.

What about polyester "sleeves" to wrap them in?
That would be safer to mount the polyester with any strength adhesive without mucking up the ribbons.

Would Klucel hold to the ribbon material?
If so, what about "hedgehog mount" to 2 or 4ply white rag board, then glue that to the top mat.

I'm happy using tape on these... they were all previously loop taped with scotch tape and pressed against the glass in the frame I took apart.
Hedgehog! Yes that's what I had in my head when I said wrap-around. And I'm pretty sure klucel would hold... I think I'm convinced to try that tomorrow. Wish me luck and I'll try to remember to report how it goes

If there's a fabric store nearby, you could try the Klucel G on a scrap of the same kind of ribbon, first.

I'm thinking avoid anything that involves moisture, as it could wick into the ribbon. In a case like this, I would be tempted to use a good quality double sided tape, such as your 415 or 3M 889. Make sure it has an acrylic adhesive on a polyester carrier. Do not use ATG. Also, I like the idea of mounting them onto slightly smaller pieces of matboard and then affixing those to the fabric background. Especially on the light colored ones, you want to use a color similar to that of the ribbon, so the color difference doesn't show through the sheer ribbon.

How about using fabric glue applied to the mat supports and then reactivated with a warm iron. The glue should be allowed to set so no moisture will weep out, but not to fully cure. It would be a fairly weak bond, but should hold the ribbons.
Iron temp in the 145-150 F range and use a cotton ironing cloth.

I had a spool of old satin ribbon which I brought with me this morning to test. Once again, my Klucel tape came in clutch! It was a very strong bond and of course flash dried after activating with isopropyl. I just did top and bottom hinges to wrap around pieces of 2 ply rag, then used a few spots of ATG Turbo glue to adhere to the linen mat. They look pretty spiffy. Would absolutely do it this way again!

Rock star!

I got a small bottle of Klucel to practice with because of the in depth study you posted some time ago.
This latest example of yours has sealed the deal on me seriously learning how to use that product. 👍

Dooo ittt!!! I'm starting to feel like an unofficial Klucel spokeswoman. Should I start mailing out samples of my tape to try and convert the masses? lol
