A customer brought in two prints done on Agfa Sherpa Proof. He wants them framed -frame and glass only no mats. No problem putting spacers in to keep away from glass but my question is can I dry mount using Restore or will heat damage the print? Help photo experts. Thanks in advance.

I don't have an answer for you, but given the proliferation of different ways to print a photograph, I really wish the photographer or developer would print mounting advice on the back side of the photograph. And if they are going to drymount the darn things themselves, I really wish they would do it on a mounting board that gives at least a 3 inch border, so we can sell a decent size mat without the hassles of making a sink mount!!!

Don't practice on your customers artwork! Have them get you a sample of the actual material used so you can practice on that.

Greg's point is very important and should be heeded, for all types of work
that comes in, which may be unfamiliar. Everything new should be tried out, using practice materials, rather than the valuable item, to be framed.

I recently had an "issue" with a local photo-processing shop. Not a BB...locally owned. A regular customer had "enlargements" made to frame. Wanted them dry-mounted. Something showed up on the photo, what I thought was a small spot of adhesive, and when I tried to wipe it off with Undo (UnSeal?), what I've successfully used on photos for years, the ink came with it! ACK!!

A quick call to the photoshop to re-print, found it was not a "photo" after all , but an ink-jet (he called it a Giclee) print that was not stable with Undo. And he said heat should not be used for mounting. How would I know that? I sure do now!

Sure looked like a "photo" to me! And we think the adhesive spot might've come from inside of the cardboard print sleeve it was delivered in. Weird! He has since changed his print sleeves to non-seamed ones.

I think I will no longer drymount photographs. After all these years, I can no longer tell the difference, unless the processor gives me precise mounting instructions. And then, I will still be suspicious.
