I just mounted a calender picture, a newspaper article and a poster. The first two mounted fine, the poster not very well. The edges were peeling up while the center was mounted. I let it cool and then put it in again and the whole thing peeled up. I'm not using reversible tissue and not sure what to do about this. I thought maybe I'd spray mount it but I really don't trust spray. Seems to bubble on occasion. Now the poster seems to have the finish of the tissue on it. What to do? Any ideas?:(

More information, please.

What brand of tissue are you using? What type of foam/matboard are you mounting to? What temperature setting are you using?

The pattern of the tissue on the front is most likely Orange Peel. If you search for Orange Peel on the main forum, there will be a huge amount of information for you.

The peeling up is puzzling. I suspect the culprit is somewhere in your answer to three questions above.

does the poster have a wax coating?

our local university uses some method of printing (can't remember name right now) and it has a light wax coating. does not agree with mounting and the wax "puddles" because fo the heat.

Mounting Issues

Pay attention to TTPM (time, temperature, pressure moisture) the four elements for successful mounting. If you mount it for the correct length of time, at the suggested temperature, under the proper pressure--both during and after mounting in the press--and have predried if using a mechanical press, the mount will be properly bonded. Check the four elements.

Basically it sounds like the time or temperature may be off, and maybe even you pressure, but need more info.

The surface texture sounds to me like it may be a digitally printed poster and what you might be seeing is the resurfacting that occurs when applying heat to a color laser print. But I might be wrong as it may very well be orange peel too. Tough to know what you are actually looking at.

Is the press working properly? When I have had trouble mounting it was usually a problem with the seal on the press not the mounting tissue. BUT I FINALLY GOT A NEW PRESS THIS YEAR!!!!!! HURRAY FOR EQUIPMENT THAT WORKS RIGHT!
