Mounting Hat Pins?

I have 5 antique decorative hat pins that I have to put into a shadowbox along with an antique flapper wedding dress. Does anyone have any suggestions for mounting? The backing board is a silk mat, some of the pins have decorations on them that can't be seen well if they are just laying on thier sides. The are about 8" long and heavy on the decortive ends. I would prefer not to use any adhesives or anything that can be seen. What do you think about finding a matching ribbon and just poking them thru and letting the ribbon hang? That or filament?

Threading them thru ribbon is a great idea. Or wrapping a piece of foam board in a contrasting color and inserting the pins in a fan shaped pattern. Position the "fan" over the dress. Sounds like a really fun project. Please post photos of the finished piece.
