My customer brought in 2 diplomas from the 60's he wants framed. One is in the original leather folder with the moire silk interior. The diplomas are 6x8 sheepskin. I would love to be able to duplicate the interior of the folder for a mat. The diploma is held in the case with silk or satin corners. Would that be sturdy enough to hold it vertical in a frame? Has anyone tried this?

You could make corner pockets out of any suitable silk ribbon, and that method would provide plenty of support if you pass the ribbons' ends through slots in the mounting board and secure them on the back using glue (not ATG). Slk ribbon would be weakened by light exposure, but most ribbons that look like silk are synthetic fabrics, anyway.

You probably could not know whether the triangluar area of the document covered by each corner pocket might be discolored by the ribbon material or light exposure.
