Help! I'm kind of new at this and am not sure how to handle this piece that was recently brought by my framery. It's an acrylic painting done on canvas, not stretched or mounted and the painting is right to the edges. It has value so needs to be treated with care. Any suggestions?? The size is approximately 16 x 20. I apreciate any thoughts! thx

Hi Jacklyn, welcome to the Grumble.

The painting should be stretched over tensionable stretcher bars. In order to accomplish this the painting will have to have extensions made to the canvas for attaching. If you are unfamiliar with the proceedure involved, it might be a good idea to enlist the aid of a conservator, especially in consideration of the value.

If you don't have an existing relationship with a conservator, they can be found through the AIC website...just Google AIC.
