Doesn't this one look like fun - Framers should get involved here! Really.

Call for Papers
Mounting and Housing Art on Paper for Storage and Display:
History, Science and Present-day Practice

This two-day international conference at the British Museum, London,
in spring 2005, will be hosted by the British Museum Department of
Conservation, Documentation and Science in partnership with the
Institute of Paper Conservation. It will aim to bring together for
the first time a wide range of experience and expertise to focus on
the mounting and storage of art on paper.

The conference will explore the following topics:

* the history of methods of storage and display in the East
and West

* the science of microenvironments created by mounts and other
housing systems; issues such as off-gassing, quality of
materials, anoxic housings, storage in 'suppressed
environments'

* old and modern materials; contemporary research into board
manufacture and other mounting materials; search for norms
and establishing standards

* mounting and housing solutions for storage and/or display,
relating to for example: single sheets; series; problem
supports such as brittle and degraded paper, parchment, very
thin papers, 3-d items; problem media such as powdery
pastels, charcoal, brittle paint; large formats;
photographic prints on paper; modern art; scrolls;
historical systems not conforming with modern conservation
standards

* bound collections of prints and drawings: addressing access
and display

* security and retrieval

Lectures will be of 15-20 minute duration. There will also be scope
for short presentations on practical solutions as well as posters
and video presentations.

Contribution proposals (up to 300 words) to be sent by March 1, 2004
(date extended from that published in the Paper Conservation News,
