Customer wants title/artist printed on a brass plate and mounted beneath the picture IN (not ON) the matboard. I think there are three options - but want your opinions on the best method to accomplish the task. (1) Cut the opening 'as usual' with the Wizard 9000's 90-degree blade; (2) cut the opening with the blade depth about half the usual, then peel out the top layer of the mat, allowing the top of the plate to match the top of the mat; or (3) use an X-Acto knife, which for me is the least preferred of the three.

Any other ideas? Thanks for your help.

opening with reverse bevel that comes into the plate by 1/16th then tape it in from the back?

We do option #4:
Cut a second opening beneath the image that is about 1/4" larger than the plate. Then we peel off the facing paper of a scrap piece of this same mat, super sticky the plate to it, then center it in the opening. The 1/8" left around the plate looks downright smart, if I say so myself. That way you don't have to make yourself crazy trying to be exact. Who needs that anyway?

I always did what Edie suggests. If you have a CMC, it's super easy. Because you'll have some space around the plate, you can mount the plate onto a contrasting mat color, and then glue that into place.

Ditto but we use 1/2" larger holes.
