mounting a huge sword

Look into learning how to make your own mounts.
Here's a great shadow boxing resource from one of the G members.

Does the client want to be able to remove the sword, or is this a sealed shadowbox?
Is this a vintage piece or a repro?
Is there a scabbard?
Will it be displayed in a controlled environment?

Here's a thought.....................Mounting the stone might be an issue though.

the sword is a replica from some video game- it's huge with a 6" wide blade. I am trying to find some type of hooks to use to hold the sword

Also look for "bent rod supports". Brass brazing rods can be bent to support such things

I went on amazon and found tons of mounts. You may have to modify them to work but I just used some masonite behind the mat then used through bolting with aluminium straps to distribute the load across the masonite.

As Niko suggested, formed rod mounts are the way to go. They are not hard to do, but it takes practice. Jim Miller's book explains how they are done.
 Rick

For a 15# piece I would be looking at "1/2 inch" a/k/a 12mm Baltic Birch plywood as the backer to attached formed rod mounts. Of course, top with your desired mat.

One other thing to consider is that, if you use 1/2" ply, plus the 15# sword, mat, glazing ets you are probably looking at a total weight of close to 50# with the frame. So you need a rugged frame and explicit hanging instructions (NO WIRE!!!).
