Mounting a hockey puck

1. Mount it with black tulle. Just do a search on the Grumble for baseball mounting or tulle mount. It's also covered well in Jim Miller's book on object framing.

2. Showcase Acrylics has a ready-made puck holder. Just poke a hole in the mat/backing, screw it on and pop the puck in. Easy peasy.

I guess I worry a little bit about having silicone in the package, I thought that stuff sent out some pretty nasty offgassing (?) and there's also a signed photo in there. I'm not sure the tulle will work in this case because of the white sticker on the puck, won't the black lacy-ness of the tulle be visible on the that white label? My customer would like to find a way other than the acrylic holder..

If it wasn't signed, you could do it like Nicole did.

I've used a mylar 'spider mount' (like you can use to mount coins or medals, only bigger) rather than just a strap. With the mylar covering the whole face of the puck it really isn't too noticeable and it wasn't too hard to do. And, I have to admit that before I learned about Mylar, I have siliconed a few down (but they weren't signed).

That's a great idea for the puck that Nicole did!:) Totally different design for this one though. I think either the mylar "spider" or the friction mount will work, thanks guys!

A three-inch circle will give you a friction fit, and add 1/16th if it's a game-played puck. Forget the reverse bevel. Build up underneath it. A small gob of silicone will hold it.

It may be overkill for you, but as part of a shadow box I set one on a shelf, resting on wood or plexi dowel (can't remember) on either side, secured with silicone, and with a mirror behind as both sides had important stuff on them.
