Looking for advice on mounting a baseballl bat in a shadow box.

The bat is 33 inches long and weighs about 36 ounces. I have done these before but they rested on the bottom leg of the box.
I welcome all suggestions. Pictures would be nice if available.

Thanks :icon45:

One way to mount

Rhop, if the bat is not really valuable and the customer only wants it mounted for long term keeping, you could take one of those plastic orange washers that roofers use on the roofing nails and run a small screw through it and the matboard or foamcore with the washer on the back side to hold it in place. Nothing shows on the front side. Just an idea

Thanks Maycele,

Can't do that. His wife told me that he cared more for the bat than he did for her.

Holy BATman....he better be sure the wife doesn't take the bat to his head

you could used formed rods or maybe some custom made wood holders to rest the bat in maybe?

Options include:
  • Acrylic holders (suppliers include Showcase and Superior)
  • Formed rod mounts
  • Wood holders
  • Melinex strap mounts
Here is an example using acrylic holders:

Thanks everyone

Probably don't need to go there.

Andrew, what moulding did you use on the box in the picture?
Looks really good.

Andrew

I thought so. That is what i am planning on doing. Did you use a 1 x 4
board?

The one in the photo was fabricated by FramesPlus.

These days I shy away from deep shadowboxes, and prefer a raised acrylic front with a shallower moulding.

If I had a bat of my own to frame, I would use a gravity groove design so that I could remove the bat from its acrylic supports; but some people prefer a closed design.

Here are a couple I did a while back

Bats are sewn into place
I used a strong clear thread that I found at a fabric warehouse
It is used on heavy quilts and i think it is a 30# wt.
