Customer wants map laminated and mounted to a magnetic board. Any thoughts on the best way to achieve this??
My first thought was using a magnetic white board as the substrate. Has anyone done this?

You can get magnetic sheet at a sign maker. You know, the kind they put on the sides of vehicles that can be removed. You could probably stick to that. Or better yet, have the sign company attach it to the magnetic sheet, and you just add a few $$$ for acting as go-between....

Will they be setting magnets on it or pieces of metal to it. Is the board the magnet or the magnetic metal.

A sign shop can adhere it to sheet metal and laminate it in one pass with a cold roller laminator.

Raphael fabrics will mount a piece of steel to piece of chloroplast for you. Magnetized films are usually weak. Using steel as a base and then using magnets on top has worked for me. The white board seems like a good idea if the map will stick to the surface.

At a previous job, we had a large piece of sheet steel, about 48" x 72" which was glued to a plywood back.
The steel was painted white with a roller to give a little texture and framed with a moulding.
We had this hanging (with zbar) in the design area.
We could then take the client's artwork and put it up on the board with felt padded magnets.
The white metal board gave a neutral background and with the artwork held up by the magnets we could then hold up corner samples so the client could step back and view the design.

This was before "virtual" design and computer programs to facilitate design, but it worked.

I guess in your case it depends on if the board needs to be magnetic, or if it can just be metal with stick-on magnets.

thanks everyone; I'll talk to my sign guy tomorrow.
