I am trying to drymount fabric (100% cotton) onto a matboard using Fusion 4000. 1 fabric worked with no issues while others are not adhering too well. Any thoughts? The fabric was washed and it didnt help much.

What temperature are you using?

Have you checked real temperature of your press or are you relying on the dial setting? Chances are it's not correct.

Either way, chances are you do not have high enough heat setting.

I know the recommended temp is 175 for F4K, but on my press I use a dial setting of 205.

[Alternatively use Frank's fabric adhesive ... either wet & cold, or dry & hot!]

Vac press set to 180. I need to get a laser temp gage.
Try upping it to 200 or so.

Harbor Freight has a nice one on sale at $39.99

In the future get a sheet of Kooltack thin or Kooltack thin alpha. You can mount the fabric to it with no issues. The advantage is that if your covering a window mat, you cut it and lay on the fabric, throw it in the press and your ready to turn. There is no chance of a random drop of glue ruining the surface of the fabric.

Turn up the heat hot stuff!!!
I drymount fabric in my press at 200... 4 minutes or so...... awesome!

Dave is right - Kool Tack is great for fabric covering.

Another method is to roll on a thin layer of acrylic gel medium and let it dry thoroughly. Then position the fabric and heat-activate it in the press at 150-160 degrees F for about 5 minutes.

This acrylic gel medium method enables you to adhere fabric to any board, including foam board & ACM, and you can glue the fabric to the bevels as well as to the face of the board. Sometimes I need to use a longer dwell time (but not higher temperature) in order for the heat to penetrate the thickness of a foam board to activate the adhesive on the bevels.

Frank's Fabric Adhesive rolled and allowed to dry, will mount at 130 degrees or
higher. Silk should never be abused higher than 145.

But I really don't understand why you wouldn't just roll the adhesive and lay
the cotton wet. Get it perfect, stick the drop-out in the mat and pop into a
press for a minute or so. Done, and looks great.

But then, I'm partial to the stuff because I rep for Frank. And because it is the
best for fabric mounting.

I upped the temp and it is holding better to the matboard. After cutting out the windows, I put them back in the press to make sure they were good.

We do have 1/8" and 3/16" Kooltack, but that is it. There are no local distributors so we order a bunch of cases at once either from Arizona or KT directly. Love their product.

I was already looking to get that laser temp gauge from harbor freight this weekend (it will be $20), guess I have to now.
