First DEFINE "primitive". I know a few guys who think they have a handle on a router and 2x4s, (see other threads).
Then there is Grandma Moses primitive.
And then you have Whistler with a scratch flute frame....
So, first you have to define exactly what your saying before we can help.
Oh yeah, and there is Toll Painting down at Michael's.....
