I'll be framing mirrors for some bathrooms that are being renovated - the new vanity will have a granite top (photo below of sample), the faucets are rustic nickel, the walls are light grey marble.

They want the mirrors to match as closely as possible the granite top:

Ideally the moulding would be blackish, with some silvery grey flecks similar to the granite.

I've found a couple of possibilities but am not not ecstatic about them. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

How about fauxing the frames? If you can't paint them yourself I am sure your friendly neighborhood decorator has a faux finisher on speed dial. A job like that would be a piece of cake.

What about that Gemart company? (You know, the "cat-poop moulding" people?) They do all kinds of stone-type material fabrication. Look at their web site.

Okay, I have solved this solution before.
We have a counter top fabricator in town that fabricates the counter tops any finish you can think of marble, granite, etc.
Find one near you they will make you strips with rabbit or you can have them make you ready made. The strips are cheaper by far. It has been about 10 years ago don't remember the cost. I know when I had it done I got like 500 ft. I used it to frame mirrors that were used for bathrooms.
Give it to them as a no rush & then the next time they mix batch of the color you want they include it.

Have the granite people cut on out of the same granite and sell the dropout back to them.

You mean to tell me that what I have been taking for granite all these years is not a quarried stone but a mere fabrication?????

Ptui!

Aw, I know it is the weekend but come on people - isn't anyone gonna say anything about my last post on this thread?

The idea popped into my head on the way to the shop this morning and I had to wait until I got home to post and now it has been FOUR HOURS and not one comment!!! :smileyshot22:

(At least I think I'm funny!)

It was pretty weak but shows creativity. We just hope you can show a sronger effort in living up to your potential. Now if you would just apply yourself.......(used to get that from my teachers all of the time).

What have you got; rocks in your head? or are you stoned. you really need to hone your skills there Mar. Someone my think you're just a chip of the ol' block by that kind of flat humor..... or think it's just slab talk... but if you want to have inclusion you'll need to metamorph into a sintilating gem that we know you em are alled capable of.

Personally, I try and dissuade people from having any frames in a bathroom. There is no way most timber finishes will stand up to constant moisture and even aluminium traps water in the rebate where it attacks the silvering from the edges.

Then there is the problem of backing - MDF and fomecor are useless in a damp area and glass or perspex add too much weight.

My usual suggestion is a bevelled mirror and a set of mirror clips or ornamental screws. It doesn't have to be square - opctagonal or oval looks great and you can add embellishments like sandblasted patterns for a bit more interest.

The mirror clips are way too plain and simple for our customers. They come to us for a custom framed mirror and they do mean custom. We do quite a few mirrors and have gotten pretty good with modifying frames to fit their decor. It can be time consuming but it is also a fun break from the norm.
