If anyone has a corner sample for LJ's Aubusson 896825, the 4-inch warm silver, could you check the finish on the sample for me? My sample is 3 years old, but the moulding that came in last week for a job I'm working on doesn't match up -- it looks like flies pooped all over it. Does your corner sample have lots of black flecks all over it?

Mine has lots of dark flecks and lines.

It's at least as old as yours Paul >3 yrs.

My corner sample as a little bit of black in it, but far less than the actual moulding that came in. Oh well, I'll let the client decide.

I've noticed some wild variations in LJ mouldings in the last few months. My latest problem is Antica Almond. The sticks that came in this week were way darker than samples.

Not bashing LJ, they're a good company but I wish they would get a grip on their finishes and the sticks with severe dog-legs.

Well, guess where the sample is going once the customer comes back in to compare sample to moulding.

I"ve noticed the same thing with their fillets. I designed with a corner sample that was silver with a hint of black. The length that came in was black with a hint of silver. Not what I wanted at all.

Luckily, a judicious application of various chemicals saved the day!

Clive.

Paul- My samples are the original "pinkish bronze" ones, with not much flyspecking at all. This line's finish has gone through a lot of variations over the years, however. Maybe it's just too subtle to achieve consistently. As you say, you would probably do well to let your customer look at it before assembling it.

Exactly Rick -- pinkish bronze with very minimal flyspecking -- maybe a 1 on a scale of 1-10. The actual molding is more of a 7 or 8 on that 10-pt. scale.

Problem solved. Customer didn't like the finish either, and chose another moulding of equivalent price (789WG). LJ is giving me a merchandise credit and taking the old moulding back, and the sample is in the trash can.
