Okay okay, so I admit that it's been done, and that it's not a terribly original idea. This was actually inspired by a framed Monopoly print we saw hanging in the newest Big Box in our area. Please note, like I said, it was a PRINT, and a rather uninspired print at that. Mike found some Limited Edition Harley Davidson Monopoly games on Ebay, and bought a couple with the intention of actually doing something for his brother for Christmas. What is pictured below is the "Frankenstein-ian" result:
The frame is made of two Studio #23301, a 2" beveled satin black. The outer frame was cut standing up, so that the inner frame would sit inside the rabet of the outer frame. The beveled lip of the outer frame was painted in pumpkin orange acrylic paint (SEVERAL coats!!!) The face of the frame was studded with 1/4" silver studs found at the same Big Box store. The gameboard and the accompanied pieces were siliconed to the surface of Crescent black leather #67300, which was also used to line the sides of the frame to a depth of 2". Tru Vu Conservation Clear was used to preserve the color of the "money".
Because of the difference in the depth of the two frames, I needed to line the inside of the inner frame with poplar bars glued and nailed at the very edge of the inner rabet. The mat spacers were attached to this, and then the mounted board was fit into the frame, pointing into the poplar bars. Finally, the piece was backed with black kraft paper, and will hang on two large, 3-hole mirror hangers, no wire.
We are thinking about POSSIBLY listing it on ebay, but shipping would be astronomical. But at any rate, we like the way it came out!!!
