Does anyone have any experiences, preferences and/or recommendations regarding a good mitre saw (for cutting both metal & wood)?

Thanks..

Welcome to the Grumble, sandhill. You'll enjoy yourself here, I'm sure.

Our saw of choice is the Phaedra by American Engineering of MN. When we were looking at saws 6 years ago, we had to have a saw with the smallest footprint and this one fit our space.
We have also had no problems with this set up.
We use their recommended blades for metal or wood and now use a spray lubricant instead of the old wax for metals and have little or no clean up.

Good luck on you search.

I don't recall if Linda has the single or double saw setup, but I bought a Phaedra about 14 years ago and am still using it with no hitches whatsoever. It is a simple, very accurate, calibrated table system that has no moving parts to speak of to wear out and, if you are a small shop or just going into business and unsure of how fancy a saw to buy, this is the perfect ticket. There are dedicated saws on the market that are excellant but much more expensive.

If your sawing requirements are such that you can get by with 2 good commercial chop saws and a calibrated table, I would highly recommend the Phaedra system. The only reason that I would sell mine and get a CTD or another dedicated saw would be to handle a large increase in business in my new location. Otherwise, I am sticking with my Phaedra.
