Does anyone know who to contact for replacement parts? I have a mitre mite VN 2+1 that needs different size heads for smaller V-nails, magnetized felt pads with the magnets, and the plastic blocks for moving the frames up and down for nailing.

I know if anyone can help, you guys can. Sorry for the lack of technical knowledge. I'm sure there are names for these pieces.

Thanks!

Sarah

Call ITW AMP - they're the Mitre-Mite folks.
1-800-322-4204
Or google ITW AMP for their website and download the instruction manual for your VN2+1

They can help you.
And welcome to the Grumble, Sarah!

Not sure what plastic blocks you're referring to. Only plastic parts on my machine are knob handles.
The magnet is built into the bottom of the vertical clamp post. In addition to the standard clamp pads that stick to it, you can make your own multi-purpose ones out of anything dense and pliable to which you can glue a large fender washer. I have a variety of shapes and materials that I use for different profiles and woods, as well as auxiliary pads that I insert between the moulding and the vertical clamp. One material I recommend is the dense foam that gardeners' kneeling pads are made from. These pads are inexpensive and easily found at garden and harware stores. One pad will cut easily into a variety of useful shapes.
Anyway, the folks at ITW-AMP are very helpful with maintenance and should be able to provide any standard parts you need.

The shop I worked in where we bought the machine from used it vertically on a small cart with a wood backboard. The plastic block was used to hold the sliding piece at different stops so you could nail, then move it to the next step, then nail, etc. If the machine was flat on a table, I don't think you would need this block, but ours is set up vertically. I suppose I could make one, it's just thick acrylic with a screw drilled through the middle to hold all the pieces together.

I suppose I could make the magnet pieces too, but the one I really need is the V-shaped one, and if I remember that magnet was pretty thick, maybe 1/2 inch or more. There are a lot of these little expenses that keep popping up. Something new everyday! But I guess I asked for it trying to open my own shop!

Maybe I'm just not that internet savvy. I can't find an instruction manual on the ITW-AMP site, and I talked to them, they said they don't sell directly I have to find a distributor. I can find different size nail heads, and accessories, things like that, but I still can't find just replacement parts, and I'm at a loss! Any help?

Have you contacted united mfrs? I know they sell that brand. We have the same machine and I made the round pads, (I think they are called hold downs?) with a washer and a thick felt pad, the v-shaped one would be harder to make without the metal part. We just make new felt pads as they get worn out. I looked for our instruction manual and cannot locate it. I wish I could be of more help. Good luck.

Finally some headway. I found a distributor who carries all the parts. Problem was, they don't list them on their website, so once I started calling around I found them. Also, ITW-AMP was very helpful in sending me an electronic file of their VN2+1 manual.

2nd problem was how expensive these parts are! I'm just entering the business from this end, I only managed a corp. owned shop for about a year, and I'm just shocked at the prices. That V-shaped magnet was $36! I'm definately going to be making my own hold downs in the future. Thanks for the info!

If you had to put together a Mustang from parts you purchased from the dealership's Parts Dept., by the time you finished you could probably have done beter to buy a Bentley Continental GT.

Tell that to my Dad who has had a 1955 Ford something-or-other he is "restoring" under a big tarp in our backyard for the past 2 years. I'm not sure what model it is, probably because of the fact that he has yet to take the tarp off!
