Just to prove I do occasionally make a frame, here's one I did earlier.....
This was very spooky. I made the frame ages ago as a test piece. It was just an odd bit with an small ornate piece on the inside. The finish is quite a strong blue with dilute black stippled on top. Waxed, and then a wash of bright green applied over the top and left to dry so that it settled in patches. The inner edge powder gilded. I kept it as a sample kicking about the shop.
One day a guy came in with a little silk print of a Madonna and Child. I was a bit at a loss what to suggest to frame it. Then I saw the frame propped up a chair and grabbed it and plonked it around the pic. Not only did it look instantly good, but it was just the right size. About an even 25mm gap all round. Added a 30mm flat gold slip and bingo.
The photo doesn't really do it justice.
