Does anybody know if the little star goes on the left or the right? I didn't see this particular ribbon in my googling of military ribbons..

In the middle. The star indicates the second award of the ribbon.

Thanks for replying rhop, but I'm not sure I understand; the star arrived from the customer attached as you see it in the picture, slightly off center. And the hole in the metal plate behind the ribbon that the prongs of the star go through is also off center, so there's not really a way to make the star be in the middle.? This is the only ribbon that came in with a letter and photo.

Is the medal identified in the letter? Almost all US military ribbons have vertical stripes, not horizontal. I don't find that ribbon doing a quick search.

rhop is correct. Stars and Oak Leaf clusters are centered on a ribbon. If there is more than one, they are centered and spaced like the ones in this image.

I'd contact Medals of America,or similar . These companies build ribbon racks and displays. They should know. L

Contact them. I would hedge a guess that it is a ribbon (non official of course) handed out by a veteran organization / club.
I once had a ribbon from a WW2 vet that was something like a NATO Defense of Antarctica Penguins with Good Behavior ;)
Kidding, but it was VERY VERY obscure and made no sense until I found a Florida VFV type group had used it as well with it's members once it was no longer awarded.

Could also be an unofficial field made one or a gifted item from a solider from another country.

After 40 years located near a military base, and a zillion retire military. I never saw a ribbon strips going left to right and were always centered on the ribbon. I think that ribbon may be foreign or something a local person or organization made up.

I'm not sure that's actually official. But ask the customer how they would like it to be laid out - that's the best way to avoid error!

My guess is that this ribbon is a service ribbbon given out by the Philippine Military. My husband has one that was given to him from the Viet Nam military. You won't find it in any of the US Military medal information because it probably wasn't given to him by the US. When trying to recreate my husband's medal display to use for demo's, that Viet Nam ribbon was no where to be found and the reason was that it was given to him by the Viet Nam Military. I would display it so that the star is closest to the heart when being worn. This is not offical, but I think it is a pretty good shot at the reason you can't find that medal in any of the US info.

Looks very similar to the Army Service ribbon, but is a foreign award, and is not one of the awards authorized for wear on the uniform. When doing any framing with awards like these, I place them below and centered the normal ribbons/medals, usually in a separate cut out.

And would go vertical.
