The sword was glued down. . ...the glue failed now it will cost him to repair the mounts for the swords and refit.

Oh well....It did have... UV GLASS though

I love the one when they couldn't get glass over 40x60 they just cut the sides off of the customers $3000 piece. My question was "what were you thinking taking a $3000 piece to Michaels?"

In fairness, I don't believe Stupid Acts of Framing are limited to Michaels in particular.

I've had a couple of employees who did immensely stupid things and then tried to cover them up. (Stupid acts were not grounds for dismissal, but attempted cover-ups were.)

I might have even done something stupid myself - once.

I think it's also entirely possible that there are some talented and conscientious framers working for Michaels, though I doubt it is an atmosphere that encourages and nurtures that.

What dya think is worse: ignorance (I didn't know that was wrong,) negligence (I knew or suspected it was wrong, but thought I could get away with it) or botched cover-up (I figured I could use markers to fix the glossy photo I sliced with the bevel blade of the mat cutter while trimming it with the straight-cut blade.)

Of course, there are the temporarily successful cover-ups that actually make it out of the shop and come back to haunt you months or years later or just annoy the customer so much that they never return, even to complain, but they tell everyone they know about it.

Recovering employer

That WAS stupid, Jerry. A smarter move would have been to buy an Eclipse or a Wizard, but a much stupider thing would have been to do nothing at all and continue cutting all my mats without a CMC.

In other words, for me, at least, a Mat Maestro is much better than no CMC at all. For many MM buyers, that isn't necessarily true because their MMs never worked at all.

It's a boat anchor. I think Ron is the only person to figure out another use for it.

Good point, Ron.

Everyone, keep in mind that many of Michael's workers have never heard of the PPFA or FACTS or the Grumble. They've never seen a trade magazine, or spoken to a rep or a good framer, and they don't get support from higher ups in the company. They have no reason to know how little they know.

Pray-tell, what kind of glue?
Usually it isn't the glue that fails. Rather, it's one of the glued surfaces.

For example, the paper fibers on a matboard's top surface will simply shred away under gravitational stress (weight). It's not the fault of the board -- paper fibers aren't intended to support weight.

Gotta love them!

Had a customer bring a frame in from there. Wanted to change the ugly metal frame that was on it to a nicer metal frame. (NE05-03 to NE 97-156).

While cleaning their old piece of glass I had to scrape of a piece of scotch tape from the INSIDE! Years of smoking crud on one side and scotch tape on the other!

Bits of fluff have on occasion escaped QC here, but this one surprised me!
