The dumster's full this morning - a notice on it says they won't take it because some moronic idiot has filled it with a washing machine and some tree clippings, neither of which are permitted, apparently.

The lock has been missing for some time (despite my requests to replace it), so the folks in the cheap properties behind us have a habit of dumping their trash in our container.

So I call the trash company, and explain the problem. They ask for the name on the account. I say the dumpster is a shared facility for several buisnesses but give them the name of the property management firm. They say the name of the property management firm does not jive with their records so they can't do anything.

Mexican standoff!

Fortunately I know someone at the trash firm, and asked to be transferred. They can't do that! So I have to make a separate call to my friend.

Hopefully she will take care of it, but I have limited confidence because I have previously explained to her the problem of the missing locks and she was going to take care of it months ago, but has never got around to it.

So I run round to all the other business units, explain the problem and what's been done about it. But some of them are as thick as bricks and struggle to comprehend. Then the moron from the beauty supply business takes a load more stuff and tries to stuff it on top, and all around the dumpster, aggravating the whole issue.

What is it with people? What the heck has happened to any form of half decent service, half decent behavior, and common sense. Makes you want to go postal!

Thanks for listening - writing is therapeutic!

Just putting it out there... would you be able to put your own dumpster out there??

Let everyone else use the other one and you have your own with another company.

Worth checking out, eh?

Thanks for the idea, but that would be extra overhead! The existing dumster costs are in the rent/CAM. Last thing I need is extra overhead!

Have you considered US Army surplus Claymore mines??

Cheap and have a lasting effect on intruders....:p

Or if blood is a hassle, how about a new lock on the dumpster, billed to the mgmt company?

You and others pay for shared service provided poorly, freeloaders break the rules and take advantage at your expense, nobody is responsible, and you have no recourse. Ah, yes. Socialism at its best.

I don't see how this is your problem. Call the landlord and tell them that this portion of the cams has stopped and will resume when the dumpster is dumped.

Don't understand the reference to socialism - the trash company is a for-profit capitalist organization.

Lately, when Capitalism breaks down, the Capitalists blame the other guy.

Some have even disowned GW (lately). They're eating their own.

John, maybe a call to city hall would help to get it resolved. Could be a health hazard, not to mention a liability issue.

I have my own dumpster service. The cost is about $85.00 per month. It originally came with a lock that, naturally, disappeared after about a month. I came to work one morning and the dumpster was overflowing with great heaps of yard debris. Not only did they fill my dumpster, they piled three huge piles on both sides and in front of it. It took five extra dumps on the dumpster at $35.00 each and a whole lot of backbreaking work to clean up the mess.

I now have my own lock for that dumpster. We do not leave it unlocked, not even for five minutes. When the lock disappears, I go and get a new one, that day.

Good I was worried about a frankenthread, glad to see we're back to dumpster diving ;)

If the Dumpster is in your CAM, and there is no lock, why pay the CAM? Withhold payment and see how long it takes the landlord to notice! He'll cough up the $12 for a new lock...

I get the reference, but I don't think it is accurate. Socialists, as far as I know, aren't for getting something for nothing at the expense of others. I think they are more of the mindset of "we are all in this together so what can we do for each other". Stealing the use of a dumpster would be considered theft, not "shared resources". Or at the least they would tell you they were sharing your property!

Nope, these people knew what they were doing was wrong and did it anyways.

Oh, and Obama isn't advocating socialism, Beck Hannity and Limbaugh are advocating a fear of it. Seems they must miss the Cold War Era.

This is becoming an issue. It really bothers me when this nit picking makes it way out of Warped and into every single thread on the G.

I'd agree Jay, but I think Jim was pulling our legs, just as I was pulling his.

Should I ever take a political thread seriously, it'll be in Warped. That's where we discuss serious issues. Like politics, and cup sizes...

I agree. The landlord needs to fill his or her responsibilities so you can fill yours. Tell them there is a washing machine in there and let him worry about removing it. Fare is fare. I would be calling and leaving messages every time I was reminded by seeing full bags ready to go to the dumpster.

Call the landlord... complain complain complain .. get a discount...

We shared our dumpster for a few years but it just got too complex... people from the 'cooking school' shared with us .. that wasn't good... food waste ..ewwwwwwwww... we made them get their own dumpster so now we fly solo with ours..... everytime we put a lock on the damned thing the dumbass dumptruck driver just picks it up and bangs it until the lock breaks off and the garbage dumps .... and it's 'their' lock... you would think he knows better.. he does have the key ..

any way ... fly solo... lock.. dump what you want!!!

Look just get the bad stuff out of there and leave it in the alley and then lock the cover. If someone needs to throw trash away make sure they use the key and lock. Of course the keys will be lost and the lock will be ripped off sooner than later, buy a new one. Keep at it-be persistant- take turns like the gas station and someone keep the key for a month-make them responsible. Doing nothing won't get the trash picked up.

Got your socialist security check lately? How about your Medicare, Medicaid.
Need a fire truck - police officer- soldier? Socialism at it's best!

Have yourself a nice fire. Once all the combustibles are turned to ash, there ought to be lots of room left.

Just about every time I unlock our dumpster, I have to marvel at the fact that we have to lock it. Our refuse company even has to lock the locks! They put some kind of device on the lock that binds it to the chain. LOCK THE LOCKS...GOOD GRIEF!

We even have to chain the dumpster to a telephone pole because the fine citizens have used it as a battering ram to try to break in the back door (it's on wheels). A BATTERING RAM!

A couple of summers ago I hauled the shop refrigerator out back to defrost it. I walked out an hour or so later and some guy was walking down the alley with the ice cube tray. I ran him down and got it back. We nearly came to blows over AN ICE CUBE TRAY! So now I have to defrost it in the back room. I guess I'm lucky the refrigerator wasn't stolen but HE TOOK THE ICE CUBE TRAY!

You are right Andrew, it does feel good to vent. Thanks!

I remember reading a story years ago about a fellow who visited the Soviet Union when it still was The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The fellow he was riding in a car with got pulled over by a cop for speeding. His friend, the driver, got out of his car and started berating and swearing at the cop for wasting his valuable time. The cop was very apologetic and decided to give him a warning, rather than a ticket. The writer said that in the Soviet Union, everyone considered everyone else their equal, so they held no qualms about cussing out a cop.

During that same time, doing something like that in this country would have gotten you thrown in jail or much worse. Now they would probably just shoot you in order to get the 30 day administrative leave while they investigate, what will prove to be, a reasonable use of their defensive weapon.

Every year right after Christmas we see the dumpsters filled with Christmas trees; some make it into thedumpster , some near it. All leave a messy trail of needles and tinsel

It's a mess

And every year the tenants complain and security tries to keep an eye out and every year some "dumpers" complain that it makes no difference as the dumpster will be emptied at the landfill; what's the big deal?

Oh, and about two miles away the city has a mulching machine every Sat to grind up trees

I am so glad that no one has created a flap over the title. i think we all what was meant

Some of our neighboring businesses are asking for shared refuse service to be provided by the landlord. I'd rather pay a little more for my own and have control of it, thankyouverymuch.

I once caught someone loading trash into my dumpster. After confronting me he flipped me off and used other choice words. I got his license and called the sheriffs department. They sent a deputy to his house and told him to get the stuff out of my dumpster or be charged.

I doubt that he will ever do this again.
BTW the deputy agreed that it is a crime and had no issues with me reporting this.

I live in a townhouse and every few units share 3 dumpsters: One for recyclables and 2 for house trash. Policy being, you cannot stuff mattresses, pullout couches, propane canisters or a fridge in those dumpsters.

Call the managing agent and they'll arrange for special pickup at no charge - but guess what? People do exactly the opposite! And all owners get fined for mixing up the recyclables with other stuff.:fire:

Is it a crime to stuff a cretin or 2 in the Recyclable dumpster??

And the moral is?

I get Jim saying we are turning into a socialist society, old tired meme. But your story, I don't get. It just made me think of the story about the journalist that took a "taxi" in East Berlin. The driver was a government minder, not a typical citizen. The guy driving the car in your story could just as easily have been a minder as well. Then he would have no problem ripping the cop a new one. And no fear of retribution. I had heard stories about cops pulling over cars in the eastern bloc that had foriegners in the car. Not for tickets, but to augment their salary. Can't really bribe a government official can you if you're a cop!

cops may taze indiscriminantly in this country but I hope that you aren't saying its ok for them to shoot as well.

cops may taze indiscriminantly in this country but I hope that you aren't saying its ok for them to shoot as well.

And tazing is so harmless.......

Ahh, Paul, I wasn't saying it was OK that cops are tazing people. To me it is quite the opposite frankly, as NPR reported years ago how AZ jails were wearing out the tazers, using them so much that they needed to be replaced. I hope you know me well enough to know that the production of "non lethal deterant weapons" is something I oppose and abhor. It just lets cops resort to the use of violence against the citizenry.

What I was meaning to say was that I had heard of indiscriminant, illegal, use of tazers by cops. Use that has actually led to tthe death of people in custody, but htatI hadn't heard of cops shooting people. At least not shooting people so that they could get a few days off work. Cops have been put into a bad light, but not all cops are bad. I've been cuffed and frisked by some of the nicest people in this country. ;)

Oh Paul, this line of questioning could get real bad real quick! Do you have the Banned Camp social group set up yet, and can we still go to the groups when we're banned? because the comment I just editted would surely have sent me there!
