I'm going to try to post a couple pictures of the shadow boxes that I made for my twin sister after my parents passed away. Please bare with me if the images don't show up - I'm new to this

My Mom passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on Jan 1st, 2000. My Dad passed away almost 3 years later (just before Christmas) from lung cancer. Both of them passed away while I was living in Calgary, Alberta :(

My Dad was in the navy and I can remember my parents going to cocktail parties at the wardroom or on Dad's ship. Back then, they would get all dressed up; Dad in his uniform and Mom in a cocktail dress, complete with gloves!

So, for the shadow box with my Mom's items, I chose a picture of her in one of her cocktail dresses, one of her fancy evening purses, a pair of gloves, earrings, a 'calling card' and a portable ashtray that she kept in her purse!

For the shadow box with my Dad's items, I chose a picture of him in uniform, his minature medals, a cigarette lighter with the crest of one of the ships he served on, various items off his uniform and half of his dog tag. Not sure if it was 'correct' to break his dog tag in two, but I wanted one half for a shadow box that I was going to do for myself. Please excuse the 'reflection' in the photo of my Dad's shadow box.

I tell my customers that we can frame memories. Why stick something in a drawer or closet, when it can be enjoyed in a frame?

Okay, I see that my pictures didn't show up. Anybody know what I did wrong?

thanks,
Karen

I think it might be the spaces in the file name. try changing the name so there are no spaces.

Thanks, Cliff. The spaces in the filename were causing the problem!

Nicely done. Brings back memories of being a military brat. Dad was in the Air Force and we have a lot of snapshots of the two of them in dress blues (or black tie) and cocktail dresses/formals. Post WWII Japan and there were several formal functions every week. Most of the snaps have them with a drink in one hand and a smoke in the other.

Nice,

I am ex forces, have plenty of memorabilia kicking around and I have just ONE thing framed, a photo.

Must get it done, 23 years of my life in boxes and drawers, not going to let the kids take it to a competitor that may have known me! Thanks for some inspiration!

Thanks for the 'welcomes' and the compliments. As I said in my 'introduction' in the Grumbler forum, I really enjoy working on shadow boxes. These two boxes, as you can imagine, were especially meaningful to work on.

Wally, I'm sure I have photos of my parents at those fancy military functions with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other - I guess it was the social thing to do in that era.

John, I'm happy to hear that I might have inspired you to frame some of your own military memorabilia. You just never know what the kids may do with your things when you are gone
I had one customer whose relatives were just going to throw away his great uncle's medals (a bronze Memorial Plaque along with a memorial cross)!

Those are very nice. Glad you figured out how to post the pics but even without them I imagined they would be something special.
