I'm going to try to post a couple pictures of the shadow boxes that I made for my twin sister after my parents passed away. Please bare with me if the images don't show up - I'm new to this
My Mom passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on Jan 1st, 2000. My Dad passed away almost 3 years later (just before Christmas) from lung cancer. Both of them passed away while I was living in Calgary, Alberta
My Dad was in the navy and I can remember my parents going to cocktail parties at the wardroom or on Dad's ship. Back then, they would get all dressed up; Dad in his uniform and Mom in a cocktail dress, complete with gloves!
So, for the shadow box with my Mom's items, I chose a picture of her in one of her cocktail dresses, one of her fancy evening purses, a pair of gloves, earrings, a 'calling card' and a portable ashtray that she kept in her purse!
For the shadow box with my Dad's items, I chose a picture of him in uniform, his minature medals, a cigarette lighter with the crest of one of the ships he served on, various items off his uniform and half of his dog tag. Not sure if it was 'correct' to break his dog tag in two, but I wanted one half for a shadow box that I was going to do for myself. Please excuse the 'reflection' in the photo of my Dad's shadow box.
I tell my customers that we can frame memories. Why stick something in a drawer or closet, when it can be enjoyed in a frame?
