Memorial Day

I'm going to be working in the yard, go for a few bike rides and have a cookout with some friends. I hope the weather holds out.
Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the thought Jack. As for myself, Gardening, washing the cars and deck furniture, opening the pool and then on Monday.... 36 holes of golf with some friends. THAT's why I call it "the best day of the year". (Except for Labor day when I do the same thing!) Before anybody (Ron) says anything I don't open the pool again on Labor Day weekend. I stretch that job into early October.
Have a great weekend!

I have a surprise birthday party planned for my younger son this weekend. His girlfriend and older brother are already in on it but he doesn't know anything yet. His girl is going to take him away from the area on Sunday so we can decorate and get things ready. Should be alot of fun.

Sat. kicks off the day I start training to do the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA)June 16-22. Seven Days 400 miles camp out every night. Different town everyday. Ride 50-65 mile a day. No phones, avoid newspapers. Talk to strangers make new friends see the country up close and personnel. Hear the birds, see the ants. see the trees and flowers up close, smell the pollen. Go fast go slow or just stop.

We'll be spending the weekend getting caught up on yard and garden work. We're about two weeks behind due to an unusually cold, wet spring (record lows were set last weekend). Monday we'll go watch our daughter march in the local parade for the second to the last time. She graduates next year.

we live in indianapolis and, this being indianapolis 500 weekend, you are required to either host or attend a party. we are hosting a party/barbeque at our house saturday night. the rest of the weekend is dedicated to yard work. you are all invited to attend if you happen to be in town.

I'm going to Spring Music Festival on Saturday night to hear Bonnie Raitt.
On Sunday is COncert on the Green (Jacksonville Symphony plays) where I will be working as a volunteer. It raises funds for art scholarships and gives money directly to arts programs for area schools.
Monday, I'll be recovering. The store will be closed. Yippeee!!!

My regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday so the answer is Not I, but I was just going to ask if I'm the only one opening on Saturday?

We'll be open on Saturday, but will close earlier than normal.
Happy holiday everyone!

Last year we were open 7 days a week, so we stayed open through the weekend. Saturday was pretty slow, Sunday was great, Monday was ridiculously slow. This year we chose to stay closed on Sunday from January-August, so we will be closed Sunday and Monday. I'll see what happens on Saturday. I usually use the weekend to do some gardening and clean off the porch and outdoor furniture. It actually snowed here last Saturday!! Today is gorgeous...nice, sunny, dry 75 degrees, so I think I'll head outside to do some work around the building, like plant our window boxes. I'll try to squeeze in a canoe ride sometime this weekend. Have fun all and don't work too hard!!

Thanks Jack, the same to you all. I will be in the garden with the mingies and cleaning my attic in preparation for our new second story that starts next month...
ALTHOUGH I'd rather be with Debbie listening to Bonnie on the green!!! She's my all time fav. I've seen her 4 times, always a great show!
We will also be at the Parade on Monday that ends right on the Old Orchard Beach famous pier. 3 out of 4 of our kids are marching...band,scouts,and Little league.

Spilco,

Are you inviting us to your Indi 500 party or your yardwork? And wouldn't you be surprized if about 1800 Grumblers showed up?

I'm open my regular hours, which is to say I'll close at 2 pm on Saturday, be closed on Sunday and open Monday by appointment. Except I won't make any appointments for Monday. Then Tuesday I'll come in and try to remember how to work the cash register.

AMY: What's a "mingie?" Open tommorrow 'til 4--our normal Sat hours--then back to it on Tues.

AMY: Is the Sanford/Alford VFD participating in the parade? If so, wave to my son-=-he's the big blond guy with s..teating smile on his face.

Good Weekend Everyone!
We'll be open Saturday from 9 to 5 but closed Sunday and Monday. I'll be off to see all the little Griffs trotting around the ring in N.J. in prep for the debut of my dog showing career in September.

Mike, I'll bet 'mingies' are an affectionate term for 'ming trees,' those dwarfed (vertically repressed?) evergreen trees grown as bonsai.

Either that or I have no idea. Typo, maybe?

A MINGIE is a tiny black fly that flys up your nose, in your eyes, mouth and hair and is virtually a big pain in the *ss (second to our 'Concord' mosquito!) :D
HOWEVER, the arrival of the MINGIE is when all good Maine farmahs begin to plant, fear of frost is past. They only last about a week or so and then they head north.
They are also affectionately called "No see ums"

Mike, I think your son will be in Kennebunks parade, but if I see him I'll wave REAL hard!

ron,
you're invited to the party, but you can stay for the yardwork if you want to. btw, if 1800 grumblers show up, and know the secret grumbler handshake, they will be admitted. however, i may need to make a beer run.

We are open today, Saturday, and then I'm outta here for three days of R&R. Maybe, I think my better half has some yardwork, housework, carwork, etc. Oh Well it was worth a try.

Thanks to all and have a great weekend, bye

Jack

I plan on having unending sex! But, if my wife finds out......

Truthfully, rest, relaxation, movies (Star Wars at 10:45 am Monday) food, bar-b-que, beer, sex, more beer, more movies, more sex....No make that beer!

We had a wonderful Sat. We'll be open on Monday, but just our framer will be there...framing. We have a large order for a commerrcial building and one for a hospital that are in progress besides the regular walk-in work. Monday is a normal workday for us. We are closed Sundays, except between the holidays. We close at 5pm on Sat. because the customers stop coming in at 4pm sharp, except for that occasional strarggler. Will let you know about business levels on Monday.

It didn't start out as a Memorial Day thing, but it ended up that way. Last night I went to see Blackhawk Down, a true story about part of the U.S. and U.N. involvement in Somalia. As my son said afterward, it has the look and feel of a documentary.

When I was growing up (an incomplete process,) war movies celebrated the "glory and glamour" of war for the most part. Recent movies like Saving Private Ryan, Blackhawk Down, Behind Enemy Lines and Enemy At the Gate left me shaken and grateful.

Driving on 71 to Cleveland today was actually a pleasure. The weather was beautiful and there were so many State cops out for the holiday weekend that the normal amount of road rudeness was virtually nil...not many trucks either.

I still can't believe I don't have to go to work tomorrow! Gardening and shopping will prevail. Well, maybe just shopping and sleeping.

Well, we had a great Monday off, and our framer had a wonderful day to himself to do framing. Guess we'll close next year, unless, of course, we have another larger order to fill.

Surprise party went off without hardly a hitch, well, a few small hitches, but my son was genuinely surprised when he got back to his home and found 25 of his best friends in his back yard!!

Son's girlfriend takes Son to riverboat to get him out of the way. Girlfriend forgets ID. Dad runs ID to girlfriend who meets him half way between home and riverboat. Dad misses turnoff on Interstate. Dad finds out that it isn't a good thing to make a U-turn in one of those little "No U-turn Authorized Vehicles Only" turn around spots on the Interstate. Dad gets written warning from State cop in (of all things) a black 5 liter Mustang! Who would've EVER suspected a black Mustang??

BBQ'ed chicken, burgers, brats, dogs, had plenty of libations, somebody brought SUPERSOAKERS!!! All went downhill from that point. S-Soakers turned into 5 gallon buckets of ice water out of the 7 coolers we had, that went into 2 hoses hooked to outside faucets on my son's house and the neighbor's house and well, .................we all went home well fed, wet, and happy.

I hope every Grumbler had as much fun as we had this weekend!

We were closed Friday through Monday to move our business to a new location 1 mile from the old store.

Today about ten framers, framer-spouses, relatives and friends are tired, sore, cut, bruised and ready for a well-earned rest. But the worst is over and now we can bask in the beauty of our new place...while we put everything away.

I am amazed at the way all pitched in to get the job done. All in all, it was a magical weekend for me. I don't know how I'll repay those wonderful folks. But I can tell you this: I don't EVER want to move again.
